Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I won't lie that got my blood pumping.
Joss talked a little about the Vision
.
... Really not liking the odds for Rhodey or the newbies right now.
Still, it's great to see Hawkeye getting more screentime, he's been painfully Out of Focus thus far.
Because I can't shake the feeling that at least one Avenger or Avenger affiliate is going to die.
And if someone's going to die, there's a much better chance it's going to be somebody not heavily featured in marketing or discussions about future movies.
Since all six plus Falcon and Fury have more movie appearances confirmed, it's basically down to Rhodey, the Twins, and Vision. Or maybe Maria Hill.

I'm pretty sure Cap is going to be the one that dies. Killing Rhodey would also have some pretty big Unfortunate Implications.
It's worth noting that Whedon already said a while back it's really unlikely that he'd get to kill off a hero in this movie because this is not just his project but a shared universe where everyone has potential to get used somewhere else, so it'd be a lot harder to get clearance to kill an established character.
I imagine War Machine is safe if for no other reason than right now Civil War looks stacked in Cap's favor and they'll need SOMEONE on Team Stark. Plus as the
'ed comment above me points out that'd be awkward for a bunch of other reasons.

Actually AOS is exactly what I'm talking about when I say it'd be a narrative cop out. Tripp had basically become wallpaper and didn't really interact with anyone other than Coulson, May, or Skye. So when they had the entire team close to weeping and talking about how much they loved Tripp and thought of him like a brother despite no onscreen indications they were even friends, it rang really hollow.
If they tried to retcon in some stuff about Rhodey being best buds with Hawkeye or Thor to give impact to his death, it'd ring just as hollow.

Captain America would have been an example for many people, and I could see it as Rhodey being inspired to join the military through Captain America. He may not be Coulson Levels in fandom, but I could see him looking up to the example Rogers set and would jump at the chance to fight along side him. If written well, I could even see Rhodey taking a bullet for him.
Plus, Coulson's death in the Avengers didn't ring hollow, even though the most interaction he'd had with anyone was Stark. And even then, the only other Avengers he interacted with prior to the Avengers were Thor and Hawkeye (although that conversation was so minimalist and unimportant that I'm hesitant to count it).
I don't recall people calling foul or hollow at his death, even though most of the punch came from the interactions and development he'd received in that movie.
