Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

The UK has Easter holidays in April, which is some weeks where children don't have school and parents tend to take time off work, if you're releasing a tent pole family picture in the UK, April is the only month you want to do it in.

Isn't Tony wearing the Iron Man 3 suit in one of the shots in today's trailer though?

EDIT: Also, looks like Tony's going to get the full Hank Pym treatment during and after this movie. [lol]

Sleep through Iron Man 2, both Thor movies, and The Incredible Hulk.

I'm just about the only person in the universe whose favorite Iron Man is the second one and loves both Thor movies. The first Thor was my favorite MCU film until Guardians came along; including Avengers. tongue

Rolling out my old chestnut: I love every single MCU film I've actually seen. I hope I'll like The Incredible Hulk when I get around to watching it.

...Marathoning all of the MCU movies over the course of a single day/night sounds exhausting. I'm pretty sure I'd get a headache or something.

It's a shame I have school.

I would have shotgunned my way through those hard core.

Alas, I have school. Such is life.

Man, the 'leap into action' shot is indeed amazing, and so utterly like a comic book panel.

And Thor just don't know when to shut up. tongue

Thor should go "IS THAT ALL THAT YOU'VE GOT?", Ultron army appears, and he just says "Still not enough."

You're not entirely alone. While I don't think 2 is as good as the first one, I do think it's better than 3. And while both of Thor's movies have their flaws, I don't think either of them are bad - and they both have individual qualities that the other MCU movies don't always hit as well.

[up] I love how Hulk looks like he's trying to avoid barreling into the camera.

He's already avoided the Pym treatment in that he's actually included in stuff.
