Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I just worry that there won't be time to develop a plot-irrelevant romance with freaking nine Avengers who all need screentime in the middle of a story about robots taking over the world. I'm seriously scared this movie is gonna be X-Men The Last Stand all over again. Underdeveloped romance is a popular substitute for meaningful character interaction when the story has to be super rushed, after all (*cough* Rogue and Iceman *cough*).
And if they had to throw in a romance, why not do Scarlet Witch / Vision instead? Or will they try and cram that into the narrative, too?
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I'm probably not going to date someone who forced me to pull a gun on them as a test for how scared for my life I was. But, she and I are different people.
Didn't Bruce try to have sex with Betty, but it'd risk raising his heart rate to that (literally unhealthy and unbelievable and only there for the sake of even numbers) Hulk trigger level of 200?
A relationship doesn't need to be sexual to be mutually meaningful.
Widow/Falcon does make more sense though; they both have military backgrounds they're in two minds about, they're both emotionally mature.
See, this is a problem when you have a massive gender imbalance; your minority-gendered characters get shipped with EVERYONE.
Actually, what I'm really worried about isn't that the Avengers franchise will turn into X-Men 3. I'm worried it'll turn into this.
On the other hand, we don't know the specifics of their relationship yet. So we can still hope it is neither a Romantic Plot Tumor nor a Instant Love, just add water. And maybe it is simply some intimate but non romantic moment like Natasha and Clint shared in Avengers.
Though the fact that one trailer showed Natasha and Hulk doing the palm against palm thing that Thor did with Jane Foster does not help my case.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I've heard the script described on some film sites as one of the best they've worked with so far, so we'll see. I think it'll be a baseless worry.

Well, Kirk did it with Spock... (going for a bromance joke, not a Too Soon joke, sorry)
Widow definitely seemed flirty in her response to Sam, but then again she seemed flirty in general to me. Maybe because I wished she was flirting with me.

Interview with Renner and Evans
. Among other things, they mention:
- Steve's friendship with Natasha from Winter Soldier is briefly touched upon, but "she has her own arc."
- Widow's personal history and backstory has a big part in the movie.
- Her history with Hawkeye will also be more detailed.
- They're trying to play up Captain America's strength more, this time around.
- They will reveal where Hawkeye's been during the events of the last few movies, and Renner says the reveal is "awesome".
- Hawkeye apparently never really cared for SHIELD, and only stayed because he admired Fury and had a fierce loyalty to him.
- Hawkeye has a lot of scenes with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and apparently he "polices" them to see if they're trustworthy or not.
It's less annoying because he doesn't have a JARVIS HUD or eye protection in his helmet, but he should still be wearing the thing, dammit...
As for his strength, we did see him rip a log in half with his bare hands, and that was fantastic. Cap 2 showed off his speed, and Avengers kinda sorta introduced his level head to the modern era, but not really.
I'll be happy to hear some of that Hawkeye backstory. Also, glad to see that Kooky Quartet and potentially some Ronin action from Clint, please.
Hawkeye never cared for SHIELD? Huh. That's both in character from the movies and comic standpoint, and kinda disappointing.

Cap has gone helmetless on the posters for pretty much every film save for Winter Soldier so it's not a big deal.
He also spends large portions of his movies without the mask or helmet. And in the grand scheme of things it's not like that flimsy thing will offer him much protection in combat.

I know. I've noticed those things, which is why it bugs me less, but still bugs me a little. It's not just because I'd rather Cap get more exposure than Stark. Cap being helmetless by choice is slightly bothersome, but Iron Man doing so is fucking daft.
It's a shame Hawkeye didn't keep the goggles as part of his costume. I guess he doesn't need them, but still. Maybe they could've done something special.
I misread that thing from a page ago as Captain Falcon/Natasha.
"Show me your moves!"
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
BUT WHERE'S THOR'S HELMET? THE MOVIE WILL BE BAD UNLESS THOR WEARS HIS HELMET!
This. They don't have helmets on because the poster has to show the actors' pretty faces unobstructed.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

Strangely enough, the Banner/Natasha ship does not surprise nor disappoint me (and I usually have some Anti Shipping Goggles firmly wielded on my head). I mean, I would be perfectly ok if they did not force another unnecessary romance plot in the movie (especially since it would be a Pair the Spares), but that one would not bother me. Banner/Hulk was the character she had the most interaction with in Avengers apart from Clint, after all (ok in the case of Hulk, it was more a case of running away like heck to avoid being crushed).
