Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

James Gunn's reasoning for not including her, though, seem to be about her script being (allegedly) entirely different from the finished material, not that she's a weak and pathetic woman.
It could mean that, but it's a pretty big assumption.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."He also did a "PG Porno" with Sasha Grey
...What a strange resume this guy has.

I mean, the fact that he's not willing to share even a little bit of credit, even though the film wouldn't have gotten rolling without her...I mean, Perlman is the first woman to have a writing credit on an MCU film. You do kinda have to wonder if he'd be as eager to distance himself and take full credit if she wasn't.
He also worked for Troma for a long time and gave some of his friends from those days Guardians cameos.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. No, clearly it's not a big enough leap. Obviously Gunn is such a disgusting monster he said he'd only share credit if she blew him .
My various fanfics.I don't see where the snub is either. From the sound of it, her most noteworthy contribution was selecting Guardians of the Galaxy as a workable adaptation and suggesting the lineup in the first place.
Is that impressive? Mildly. But according to the article, she herself mentioned needing another writer to make it comedic, and considering what a huge chunk of the movie is comedy... I don't think Gunn wanting to take the bulk of the credit is unreasonable. She got the Guardians' foot in the door, but from the sound of it Gunn's the one who forced it open and proved it was workable. If they'd gotten a bad director and it had flopped? I doubt people would be nearly as quick to call foul for people not pinning it on her.

I find Gunn's article makes him come across as a bit of a sleaze, and I doubt his attitude has really changed all that much in the last few years (worth noting he only apologized for some of his comments when his job as director was at stake). So his "Man, why do people think my favorite character is male?" bit comes across as a bit forced.
But I don't think he's a monster. There is some middle ground there, you know.
I mean, you'll note I said he has a reputation for misogyny rather than flat-out calling him a misogynist. I think there's a difference.
And, I mean, I do think Gunn makes a good point. If you're a dude, unless you've got a massive reputation for feminism people are gonna assume you're into male heroes because normative values and such. But I think Gunn might be missing that, well, there's other reasons people might be making that assumption about him.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I'll say that his background working in trashier films probably filters into his current work and writing, but I haven't seen anything that paints him as a flat out misogynist. He seems quite decent otherwise.
And if mainstream success convinces him to rein in the worst of his past impulses, I'll consider that a win.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAs to the character herself, who are we thinking? Moondragon? Quasar? Mantis?
I actually saw a neat theory that since Thanos apparently has a odd fetish for raising the daughters of his victims to be assassins, and that Gunn had said we'd meet more of Thanos' "children" in future movies, perhaps he took Drax's daughter (Moondragon) and raised her like he did Gamora and Nebula after Ronan killed Drax's wife.

That would be neat. But even if that isn't the exact plot, Moondragon is the easiest of the comic guardians to be included in the sequel, as she have a connection with one of the members already. And if she is in, the chances of getting a Qasar increases as well. At any rate, I really hope the break the damn Smurfette Principle by introducing more than one new female character. The complete unbalance in the gender ration among super heroes is becoming really uncomfortable already.
Bug Mantis could easily be rewritten as an alien since her celestial madonnahood or tree husband (ex-husband?) never come up.
But I'm hoping for some Phyla-Vell
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMore Ant Man trailers or RIOT
seriously i'm really looking forward to it
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThere will still be Science Bros, but not ROMANTIC Science Bros.

Though I think everyone got the same amount of fight scenes. I don't think anyone was really short-changed in terms of focus, either. Except maybe Groot, but there's only so much you can do with 3-5 words.
