Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

My brother said to me one day about a year ago "You know who should play Dr Doom? The guy who voiced Crunk from Emperors New Groove." and I was all "I.... I can't say no... the universe won't let me not say yes to that idea."

Then I will. That sounds like a terrible idea.

I wouldn't not be able to picture David Puddy.

I just can't imagine a Patrick Warburton character being loud. Deep, maybe, but not, like, screaming and yelling.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Why is Dr. Doom, of all characters, the one who gets "fun" casting?

Doom sounds VERY THEATRICAL in Assemble and just menacing in EMH.

Doom doesn't actually always need to be loud. The EMH Doom was very effective despite never raising his voice. Doom's most defining character trait is his glorious Ham.

Warburton might work for an animated Doom. But it would just feel...ech, to have him be Doom in Live Action.

You could always go with Mick Foley - I always thought his voice for THE BOULDER sounded very similar to Warburton.

"Sounds to me like you're scared, Doom!"

I wonder if the "big announcement" will be that RDJ has agreed to turn up in the Spider-man movie.

I know a lot of people were worried Vincent would be too skinny for the role, but he's bulked the fuck up, holy cow.

Also, weird they'd come up with a new costume for Hawkeye but then not use it on the posters.

Doesn't look like these posters combine. Hawkeye's isn't set in a city. Seems to be closer to his mysterious farm.

[down]I would watch this movie.

No, see, Hawkeye used his entire SHIELD stipend to buy the entirety of Central Park, and turned it into a farm smack dab in the middle of New York City.

I will always imagine Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin, but it would be interesting to see Edgar from Men in Black as the part.

Yeah... I'm not going to trust some rando. On Reddit, especially. Even if they were right about the Marvel-Sony deal, even a stopped clock is right twice a day, or... some other metaphor that makes more sense.

And in a war of questionable sources Latino-Review is saying O'Brien is absolutely NOT the new Spider-Man and that they're looking for a more age appropriate unknown ala Harry Potter.

They're also suggesting that the big news RDJ hinted at is Iron Man appearing in the film to fight Spider-Man. Which, yeah....
