Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If Marvel is Hydra, what is DC
was the key clicking in pandora's lock which caused this.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAn article about the Operation HYDRA
prequel.
Apparently it will see the Avengers trying to play clean-up since HYDRA has gotten its hands on a bunch of old Chitauri weaponry left over from the invasion of New York. And it'll explore Hawkeye's relationship with the team and the notion that he's useless because he's a guy with a bow and arrow.
Some new details from the Spider-Man deal have emerged, according to Latino Review
(so feel free to grab your salt shakers): "We have information from a source suggesting there is no financial involvement whatsoever and no direct creative control over Spidey coming from the old guard. Amy Pascal still has a say in the Mom-and-Pop arrangement she has with Feige, but Disney didn’t want to unite Pearlmutter, Arad and Feige in earnest. This is the solution. What does that mean? It means Marvel might have a bit more control than we thought. It means the new Spider-Man has been insulated from BOTH Avi Arad and new Sony head, superhero property curse, Tom Rothman."
If this turns out to be false, then that's just Latino Review for you. If it's true (and it does seem to confirm earlier reports that Arad has been Kicked Upstairs), then I'm breathing probably the biggest sigh of relief I've ever breathed.

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryHonestly, I would be very surprised if the deal weren't shaped in a way that Sony can save face in public, but in reality, Marvel (or to be precise, Feige) has the last say in everything Spider-man related. I also suspect that Marvel has the power to walk away from the deal and leave Spider-man out of their universe anytime. They won't allow Sony to hamstring their vision in any way.
- ROTHMAN: So, now that we're a couple movies in, let's talk about the leverage we have over you. Everyone knows Spider-Man is the only reason you're succeeding right now.
- FEIGE: ...really?
- Later, in Avengers 2.5
- STARK: Where's Spidey?
- ROGERS: He won't be joining us. He seemed like a good idea at the time but then he just started acting like a shit. Thanos punched him so hard he crashed into the Sony Pictures building, causing the entire thing to collapse and killing everyone inside.
- STARK: Wow, that's rough. Eh, I'm sure we'll manage.
We should wait a bit longer before we call him the devil since he has only had the job for a day or two and hasn't talked about the MCU yet. For all you know he might give Marvel all the control in the Spidey movies.
He talks a lot about stability which should calm your nerves a bit since playing hard with Marvel isn't going to make Sony stable.
