Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

What happens if the "more Batman" films Bat-Bomb? The End of the World as We Know It?

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryI don't think it will fail because come on, Batman versus Superman, but I would not doubt it "falls short of the expectations" either critically or comercially and Warner just goes in damage control mode and shelves everything.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I think people are way too mean to movies like Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Man of Steel. Yes, they have flaws, but are we really saying that anything short of a perfect movie must lead to "CANCEL EVERYTHING?" What if Avengers 2 or 3 turn out to have problems? Should we just shelve the entire MCU?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. We are not saying that's how it's supposed to be, we are saying that is, most likely, how it will be.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I don't see how it's "most likely" at all. Bad movies make money all the time. Batman is a huge draw (even Batman & Robin, the movie that fucking killed the franchise, only made around 230 million. And that's before the International Box Office was a huge thing Hollywood marketed to). And again, if a piece of shit like Man of Steel pulls in over 600 million it's unlikely a team-up with Batman isn't going to do at least around that.

Well not that it will most likely fail, but that if it fails it will most likely result in the downfall of planned franchise before it begins.

Green Lantern wasn't less than a success it was an outright Box-Office Bomb. It made 219 million on a 200 million budget. You have to at least double your budget to make a profit, which means they lost tens of millions on that.

Green Lantern wasn't stopped because it was critically hated, it was stopped because it only made back 20 million more than its 200 million budget.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
Look, if the first movie in your franchise barely makes back what it cost to produce, you'd have to be a fiscal idiot to say "well, it's early, the next one will do better."
Green Lantern made 110% of its budget back. By comparison, The Incredible Hulk made 175% of its budget back and Iron Man 2 made 312% of its budget back.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Well, Hulk obviously underperformed in the eyes of Marvel, that's why the Iron Man, Captain America and Thor franchises are or will be trilogies and The Incredible Hulk wont. I think the difference is that Marvel has more confidence in their B-Listers. If one doesn't work out, they shift to another one. DC on the other hand tries to prop up all B-Listers by putting them in a movie with Batman and Superman.
You could almost say Marvel's strategy is... if you cut off one head, two more will take its place.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.

Or we just wait and see what happens instead of jumping to conclusions. The main Sony office is way more in control of the rights now than they were a year ago. If they want to sell the rights later, they will do it.
(Also next time link an actual article instead of a youtuber)
@The list I was going to make: Working on it. Only slept 4 hours last night and I'm feeling awful but I managed to work a couple of hours before giving up and going home.
@The poster: Way too crowded, the photoshop is strong with this one, american top billing is a strange thing, would have liked a bit more color in the background and I still miss Thor's kickass helmet from his first movie.
