Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Most of the stuff at the Oscars is scripted, so who knows if the people saying the words really mean it. Maybe we just need to take it as a sign of success that people are making fun of something that's popular.
And hey, in a weird roundabout way, a comic book movie DID win at the Oscars.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectAnd hey, if the Warcraft and Assassin's Creed movies are any good at all, next up: Video game movies!
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectApologizing for repeating this, but how are Iron Man Rise Of Technovore and Avengers Confidential Black Widow And Punisher not canon to the MCU?

Because despite being made to help promote Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they're actually set in the Marvel Anime continuity (designated Earth-101001
in the Marvel multiverse).

Then what about the former's call backs to the first two Iron Man movies and Avengers 1?

If I had to guess, I'd say that (in-universe) the events of those two films (or something similar) occurred in the Anime universe as well.
Out-of-universe, they were probably included in order to avoid confusion among viewers who saw the movies, but not the TV anime.

And making a continuity inspired by the movies to a degree but not necessarily set in it is nothing new. For instance Avengers Assemble is very clearly inspired by the movies (to an unhealthy degree) but still has enough obvious differences (namely Falcon acts absolutely nothing like his movie counterpart and Odin is not dead) that it cannot possibly be part of the same canon.
Rise of Technovore is more ambiguous but Avengers Confidential has a slightly different Avengers roster than the one seen in the movies.

In fairness to Steve, driving around aimlessly looking for Bucky won't help.
Poking Tony until he does some nonsense satellite camera thing might.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAnd, once again, Johansson and Fury are buried deep in the background.
Which is weird, because besides Iron Man 3 and Guardians (which doesn't have its characters on this poster for obvious reasons), Cap 2 was the biggest hit this Phase, so you'd think you might wanna promote characters from that over Thor and the Hulk.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.![]()
Hulk and Thor are actual Avengers, while Fury is not (and he is still more visible than the Twins). Widow is not that small in comparison to these two. Thor is still one of the main 3, so Marvel still probably want him to be visible. And it is hard to push Hulk aside without making him look silly (his entire character is about being big and imposing). Widow is still more visible than Hawkeye, the Twins and Vision.

James Gunn on the Oscars.
Sorry to dredge, but he said a good piece.
