Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

He's all of those things, but Snyder till finds the time to make him cooler than all the Justice League combined.

My various fanfics.
So I take it you're not a fan of Snyder's run?
Anyway, I've heard good things about the Court of Owls. I actually thought it sounded interesting since I first heard about it, but considering...other stuff I've heard about the New 52 (along with my opposition to such a large-scale reboot in general), I was reluctant to read it. Now I might give it a try.
Oh God! Natural light! Is this still "Oh my god what's wrong with your faaaace?" Joker?
We're getting an Avengers relaunch under a new creative team called All-New, All-Different Avengers. The woman writing Ms. Marvel has confirmed the book is continuing after Secret Wars so I imagine that's gonna hold true for a lot of the more recent titles like Squirrel Girl and Silk.
The editors also confirmed a Doctor Strange book and strongly alluded to a Black Panther one so yeah it seems like those two have benefited from the movies.
Here's the synopsis for the second Lady Sif episode of Agents of SHIELD.
Grain of salt obviously but someone on one of the spoilers claims to have some info on Civil War
.

@Scott Snyder's Joker. I've only read bits and pieces; but his Joker does seem to be progressing into Slasher Movie Monster territory. I'm not sure the Joker needs to be that as he works well as an ideological threat to Batman regardless of his physical or nightmare-fuel presence.
Recent revelations (IE The Joker might have origins in a century old haunting on Gothem ) only adds things to the Joker tool box I think; considering he is The Multiple Choice Past trope adding a few more choices can only give future writers more options.
It might be fun for the MCU Spidey to pull a surprise and, like the comics themselves, have Peter have a different girlfriend in every picture.
And not even be portrayed as a player or anything like pre-Iron Man Tony was - every time, there would be a Noodle Incident about why he's no longer seeing X-previous love interest.
- "Yeah... I was kind of indirectly responsible for her brother's death. It's complicated..."
- "Yeah... it didn't work out. She ended up with one of my best friends, though! That... didn't work out either. For anyone. Ever."
- "Yeah... turns out she was more in love with Spider-Man than Peter Parker. Irreconcilable differences." -> Tony: "That's why you shouldn't have a secret identity, Peter." -> Peter: "Yeah, because all of you have such stable relationships."
- "Yeah... there was something about Mephisto, and after that it's all a blur." -> Tony: "Hey, the same thing happened to me when I had Palladium poisoning. Word to the wise, never drink and drive an armored suit, Spidey." -> Spidey: "Huh?"
- "For the last time, she was my roommate, not my girlfriend! No, I'm not just saying that because she's black!"
- "Yeah... that didn't work out either. I mean, you turn into a giant spider monster one time and of course it's the guy with the spider powers' fault."
- "Yeah... it was going well, but then she figured out my secret identity, and then she had a nervous breakdown. Totally unrelated, I swear."
And so on. Honestly, there's enough stories like that to fill up any number of movies Marvel might be planning to put Spidey in.

If Marvel and Sony are smart, they start out with Black Cat. Because in this case, the relationship angle isn't even necessary, and they have the option of making a spin-off, since Sony is so set and having a "female superheroine" movie, too (it's a little bit amusing, for ages those movies were considered box office and career killers, and now suddenly everyone wants to be the one who make a successful one).
It's the equivalent of a gold rush. Marvel effectively has the the monopoly on the traditional genre of superhero and is pretty much unebeatable in the box office, so other people (and of course, Marvel themselves) want a new area to explore (female superhero movie, minority superhero movie, Supervillain squad hero movie, Deadpool fourth-wall breaking shenanigans movie).
In the metaphor of a gold rush, Marvel has taken over the largest goldmine of the state, so everyone else is running the fuck off to find a new area to mine before Marvel acquires every single gold mine of the state.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah, but the project had been on a comatose state since 2009. I'd wager that at least 50% of the reason it moving forwards is because Deadpool's brand of wacky hijinks is uncharted territory in the current superhero boom (and since the character tends to parody superhero tropes, this is the prime hour to put him forwards).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."According to Ryan Reynolds the thing that finally did it was the massive online response to the leaked test footage. He's gone as far as to say this movie flat out would not be happening were it not for the fans who shared and raved about the teaser.
I'm not saying that the point about wanting to do something different wasn't a factor, but the big one does seem to be the positive response to the pitch stuff.
Something I found on the Daredevil show's tropes page:
Er...I don't suppose anyone has a source for this tidbit?
Regardless, this came as a shock.
I was ready to assume it'd be TV-14-ish, but hey, "go big or go home", I suppose.
EDIT: Also, can anyone believe The Kingpin used to be Edgar and Carl? Crazy.

It says TV MA here
. Which is weird because I know the writer originally said it's not gonna be that dark.
Keep in mind that the FFC is responsible for television ratings, and—unlike the MPAA—has no ability to use its decisions to censor works with certain ratings. So it seems likely that, while the creators don't think the show is that dark, the FCC disagreed, and rather than editing it down Netflix just accepted the grade and moved on.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Is Batman paranoid, obsessed, or flawed in this run?
