Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Y'know, I could see Hellcat being a "Trish".
It's still ultimately the same name. Both Patsy and Trish are derivatives of Patricia.

That seems an odd complaint because Tricia and Patsy are both nicknames of Patricia- As you say, it's just that the second is no longer popular
Similarly, I heard that Scott Lang's ex is Maggie in the films rather than Peggy (since there's already Peggie Carter)- Again, Maggie and Peggy are both nicknames of Margaret- Doesn't seem too problematic a change

I had to google it and this is all I found.
I'm still confused.
Even more confusingly, Gretchen/Gretta/Gretel/etc is also connected to the name as a (German obviously) nickname of Margaret.
Edit- RE Daisy, from Google- "Daisy is also a nickname for Margaret, used because Marguerite, the French version of that name, is also a French name for the oxeye daisy. It came into popular use in the late Victorian era along with other flower names."
And now you know the rest of the story.

Hahahhahahahahahaha... You sweet, naive soul. I, too, was once as unburdened as you, but then I joined the Frozen fandom. I generally try to avoid the other fanfics and not look the other fanfic writers in the eye.
You forgot to mention how Gwen Stacy was killed by Carnage, therefore causing Carnage to absorb her DNA and generate a Gwen Stacy clone, which then un-bonded from the symbiote, and then Tony Stark assured Peter this was effectively the same as Gwen being alive again, and nobody ever questioned it or had any sort of moral dilemma ever again.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.
In all fairness, Wanda and Pietro arguably had the most healthy and stable relationship in The Ultimates.

Oh, I don't doubt it. I quit reading around the time Bruce Banner intentionally turned himself back into the Hulk for the sole purpose of giving the Ultimates something to fight... which I believe happened within the first five issues or so.
I hope the MCU doesn't feel the need to level a Take That! at their ultimate version. I hope the MCU doesn't even acknowledge it.
"War without fire is like sausages without mustard." - Jean Juvénal des UrsinsPeggy Carter's name is acutally Magaret Carter...which I didn't know either until they made a point of it in Agent Carter by letting one Co-worker keep calling her "Maggy" even though he knows fully well that for one, her choosen name is Peggy, and two, the agents in the office are usually called by their surname, not their first name. But english short names are often weird...I mean, how did you get from "William" to "Billie" and from "Richard" to "Dick"?
I am not too hung up on the names, provided, that I understand why they changed it.
As an aside for those who may be wondering how Ultron was in the Ultimate verse, well
◊ he was kind of in love with Wanda
◊ and later killed her.

x8 I'd strongly suggest the moment immediately prior to Carnage-Gwen's debut as a good stopping point for anyone who wants to read the comic.
x4 Wait, what's Venom doing there?
IIRC, Bendis has pretty much admitted that Carnage-Gwen was a desperate attempt at an Author's Saving Throw because he strongly regretted killing off Gwen. It had sort of made sense at the time because she's Gwen Stacy and thus she dies, but after the fact, he just felt like it was a terrible waste of a perfectly good character for a stupid reason.

That'd be a great justification if Gwen had actually done anything worthwhile after being brought back to life. Instead I think she became Peter's girlfriend despite having no interest in him before and then she turned into background scenery.

Comic booky names are tricky like that in general especially when they're Meaningful Names. Marvel has lucked out because a lot of the sillier names haven't come up so far.
There was some grousing from the fans about Patsy Walker being called "Trish" in the Jessica Jones show but it's sort of the result of Patsy not being a common name anymore.
They've been alluding to it for a while now.
