Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I notice that's a common problem with bad superhero sequels. To an extent you can argue the same thing about Raimi's Spider-Man 3 and Amazing 2.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's the stated trilogy syndrome. First movie's good, second's better (or at least decent), and the third is an utter trainwreck.
Examples: Mad Max, The Godfather, Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Superman...
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Avengers 3 is 'Everyone: the movie', so there's always a risk.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI think that Jane could be an interesting character if they actually gave her something to do instead of just pretending that she does something. And yeah, removing Selvig would have changed the dynamic between Thor and Loki in the Avengers, but let's be honest here, of all the Avengers Thor's arc was the weakest. He barely interacted with the other Avengers and his reaction to the news that Selvig got kidnapped was "he is a friend". You know, the first confrontation with Loki could have remained unchanged assuming that Thor left Asgard befor Heimdall could tell him that Jane got kidnapped by Loki. But by kidnapping Jane instead of Selvig the result would have been that the second confrontation would have been way more intense (instead of being basically a repeat of the first one). And yes, it would have been difficult to convince Thor to concentrate on repelling the aliens instead of trying to break through to Jane. But it would have been a great character arc for him, the first time he would be forced to act for "the greater good" and protect the people he can help, even if it means that the one he loves has to wait.
The only problem with replacing Selvig with Jane would have been the unfortunate implications of her being under his mind control.
I was about to just say that. I won't open that debate up again because Iron Man 3 is such a Base Breaker but either way Iron Man 2 is still generally regarded as the worst in the franchise. It does not follow the trilogy pattern of "One is good, two is great, three sucks."

I would be very disappointed if the Infinity war didn't involve the Guardians. How are the Avengers supposed to defeat Thanos without the power of dance and love?
And I honstly don't see much of a difference between Iron man 2, Iron man 3, Thor 1 and Thor 2....those are all movies which have elements I like and elements I don't like. Good ideas, weak execution.
The incredible Hulk is for me the weakest movie of the MCU.

I also love Iron Man 3
I don't know how I'd rate it. Phase 2 had very good movies.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe Phase Two movies have been so fantastic I'm actually a little confused in hindsight about what people liked about the Phase One movies. Thinking about it, the only ones I really liked were Iron Man and The Avengers.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I liked it, I didn't love it. Same with Thor. But none of the Phase 2 movies were a dud, and we got two which were really outstanding. How often does THAT happen? Normally if you have a franchise, it keeps getting worse and worse, not better and better.
Yeah, I agree, (Though I really liked the first Captain America movie), seeing phase 2 was a little bit like getting a new pair of glasses and suddenly realizing how bad your vision truly was beforehand.

I've loved all of the phase 2 movies. Including Thor 2. They've all been really fun so far. I hope Phase 3 lives up to the precedent, especially considering it has the first female-led and black-led movies.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Which is why I said "so far?"
I don't see what you're correcting, here.
I have to say, I can totally see Ant-Man being a flop. Something just feels so... lackluster. Which is odd when we still basically know nothing about it, but I dunno. I'm not very excited for it.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."@Mukora that's a good point. The Incredible Hulk is completely irrelevant. Nothing comes from it, nothing happens in it of significance. All that really matters is the after-credits scene where Tony shows up, and the deleted scene that's brought up in The Avengers about Banner trying to kill himself.
My various fanfics.

Last Stand was two possibly good movies getting into a car crash.
