Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I am as usual behind the discussion, but here are might thoughts about Thor: The character I would cut is not Darcy, it is Selvig. And yes, I know that mot people like this character. But think about it: Why does Jane need an "older and more experienced" scientist on her side? Why can't Jane be the one who springs Thor from Shield custody? Does he anything in this movie Jane couldn't do aside from doing this "if you hurt her I'll kill you" scene, which is annoying as heck and adds nothing to the plot? You remove Selvig and Jane suddenly becomes a way more interesting character because she is the only scientist around she is the one who makes the important decisions. Instead of Selvig and her talking science, you could have Jane trying to explain Darcy science...which in turn would mean that the audience would get something understandable instead of long winded science babble nobody cares about. And it would be a funny joke if Jane would science babble, Darcy would say "in english please" and Jane would answer "realms in one line, reality disturbed, might result in destruction of the universe" (or something like this). If every scene in the first movie which involved Selvig and Jane discussing if Thor can be a god or not (which was boring as hell because we know that he is) had insead been a discussion between Jane and Thor why one shouldn't seek out war and why one should respect other races, Thor's character arc as well as the romance would have been way better.
Would Darcy then be the one with whom Thor drank, fought, and made his/her ancestors proud?
Because I support that.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.RE Norman Osborne,
I think the issue with having him beforehand (rights aside) as well as using him now is that his role in Dark Avengers involves to a great extent his status as a "reformed" super-villain. That's a big part of how he chooses his team and why him being given power is such an obvious bad idea.
An Osborne without that past is not much different than someone like Alexander Pierce (or even Nick Fury himself when pushing Project Insight)- he's just more malevolent about it.

I do have a theory/suggestion that Thor will be killed but will come back as Eric Masterson- and the Eric will be in honor of Selvig.

Maybe Darcy knows norse mythology?
Maybe just 'isn't thor one of those viking guys?' or something, prompting Jane to look for more info.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersExactly...they could have made Darcy a history or literature student (since her studying politics had no bearing on the plot at all...which is a shame, she could have discussed different political systems with Thor).
What bothers me about Selvig is the mind-set behind it. Neither Bruce, nor Tony need someone to approve of the work they do. But Jane for some reason needs someone to hold her hand. And what gives Selvig the right to meddle in Jane's love live? (though I admit Darcy drinking with Thor would have been funny).
I believe the joke is that there was an internship for science students and Darcy signed up for it because she was a political science student oh ho ho what a jest
Forever liveblogging the AvengersVery infrequently meeting a norse god might be worth it?
Good on a resume?

There's some conflicting info because some sources say the pregnancy is the problem while on the other hand Whedon himself said that he did not want to include any sidekick or supporting characters, which is why RDJ had to fight to get Pepper included in that glorified cameo. Originally Whedon didn't want her to appear at all.
