Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Is there actually a time where Dr Doom was seriously incapacited and revealed to not be a doombot ? (Squirrel Girl excepted)
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.He's lost fights before. The Doombot reveal is usually the result of a writer not agreeing with how he lost the fight. Often a different writer than the one who wrote the fight.
"Defeated by Power Pack? Nuh-uh, Doombot." "Doom would NEVER lose his temper and start calling female characters misogynistic slurs, he's classier than that, that's a Doombot!" "His armor was blown off and then Reed spun him around and spanked him? Nope, Doombot."
Doombots are easily the most well-known and prolific example of the "What that writer wrote is bad and I'm going to use my time at the pen to unwrite it!" phenomenon at Marvel.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.![]()

No argument from me for a Squirrel Girl movie (and She-Hulk, I love She-Hulk, provided she is not "characterised" as in Hulk and the agents of SMASH).
Well, that was her first incarnation when she was basically just girl Hulk. She kind of moved away from generic angry girl in that series when Jen started to prefer being She-Hulk to the complications of living in polite society, lying to people and expectations and such.
But she hasn't been generic angry for... ever. So bad on you agents of smash.
Just more proof to my preconception about this round of marvel animated.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI have the second volume of Ultimate Fantastic Four (Don't judge me, the Library was giving this stuff away) and as I recall, Dr. Doom did lose, but this battle took place in the middle of Latveria so the people of his land came to protect him and the FF were like "yeeeeaaaaaahhhh, we can't do this anymore, can we?" and left.

No.... No... Bad Agents of SMASH. Dammit, second round of Maarvel cartoons, why did you have to blow?

The Blog The ArtFeels like how the Superman/Darkseid confrontation ended up in Superman the animated thingy.
I have the first volume of Ultimate FF and some random volume some numbers in where Ronan something something thanos.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIts easy(ish) to overthrow a hated tyrant.
But how do you liberate people that don't want to be liberated?
sort of thing.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers"Superman does not kill! Superman will watch a guy get ripped apart by an angry mob though. ... Not even a little bit angry? Dang."
The comics tend to flipflop on whether Latveria is a horrible dystopia where the citizens are afraid of Doom or an advanced kingdom where the citizens love Doom.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIts just funny from the big blue boyscout is all.
Interesting loophole in his moral code.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh, he fucking hates Darkseid. Like, in all the universe, Darkseid is the only person Superman outright hates and would totally be down to murder.
My various fanfics."Well if you guys aren't going to kill him, give him back and I'll do it."
"No take backsies"
"This is the worst planet with the worst people."

Why does this thread becomes alive only when I'm not bored at work checking it every 5 minutes ?
I was not aware that Marvel was planning a Crisis event. I wonder if it can make things worse than Ultimatum. Then again, I've lost track for some time of what happens in both 616 and Ultimate verse. Just hope they keed the version of Reed Richards who is a good guy (I kinda like Fantastic Four).
On the subject of dead characters, the problem is that either you never kill anyone (save the occasional red shirt to show things are serious) and end up with Boring Invincible Hero against Joker Immunity, or have some characters thought to be dead to be revealed to have survived, which can become stale very fast, or kill actual, important characters, and run the risk of having them be fan-favourites and cause people to turn away from the comic. I won't pretend to have the right solution to this by the way.
I see the 60's Spiderman as some anti-Superman, and the death of Gwen Stacy was in line with this approach and worked well at the time (we never saw Superman botch a Lois rescue). Now after the various Dark Ages of comic books have passed, this has lost a lot of its originality.
