Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Precedent. Peter died so Miles could replace him in the Ultimate comics and in the alternate universe on the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. I'm guessing the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe will make him and Peter alive at the same time, though, so that could give some precedent for Miles to be Spidey without Peter being dead. Also apparently Ultimate Peter is immortal thanks to the Oz serum or some bullcrap, so technically he was more presumed dead than dead dead anyways.
Of course, the movies don't have to be faithful to the comics if they don't want to, but they seem to usually follow the general gist of them.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Probably be controversial, but there's no need to be faithful to the comics if it's just going to slow things down. The Cinematic Universe has taken plenty of liberties with the source material, and you can't argue with results.
Yeah, a lot of these characters are iconic and you need to be CAREFUL with icons. But Miles Morales ain't an icon yet.
You are not alone.Captain "the Carol" Marvel is getting a movie without Mar-vell needing one first.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers... Which is getting pushed back... -angry grumbling-
But there's all sorts of things you can do with a fresh slate. Heck, speaking of Captain Marvel you can even introduce the new Mrs. Marvel before giving Carol Danvers her powers. Kamala Khan could merely be a big fan of Carol Danvers as a pilot... Maybe have her do some blue angels esque airshows in her downtime.
You could even have someone like She-Hulk come before the Hulk by saying her cousin saved her life with experimental Gamma radiation-based medical procedures instead of a blood transfusion.
Those are stories that could work. They don't need to, since the original groundwork for their origins is being built, but we have a Tony Stark built Ultron and a alien Drax. It's streamlining and reworking being done at once and it's making for great films.
You are not alone. On the subject of "Which Spider-Man to use", the solution is simple - Do a Spider-Verse movie. Have all the Spider-Mans. Give closure to Andrew Garfield, bring back Tobey, put all the voice-over guys in costumes, have a Miles or two, get Emma Stone to play Spider-Gwen... is the guy who played the Japanese Spider-Man still alive? All the Spider-Mans.
You there! Check out my Youtube Channel! The power of Ponies compel you!Normally I can say I can wait a few months, but I was already told I needed to wait years! ANGRY NERD RAGE!
On a different note can I again sparkle with glee at the idea of Hellcat joining the MCU via the Netflix series? Weird as it is, her comic struck a pretty big note with me way back when. Particularly because it was the first one I ever read that was totally upfront about blood and civilian death.
Tigra, White Tiger, Black Panther, Black Cat, Hellcat. They should form a team. The "Formidable felines" or something.

You are not alone.Okay, that was posted a few pages back, but someone pointed out that Miles is usually younger than Peter...which reminded me of a discussion which once happened here about Batman about the problem to include a proper Robin in the movies. The reasoning (which I followed) was that while we might be able to overlook in comics when someone who is half of a child is going up against the likes of the joker, it is kind of disturbing to see in live action, when the fact how young Robin truly is more obvious. I see the same problem with Miles. Even though Marvel talked about a high-school aged Peter, we have been talking about actors around the age of 20, automatically assuming that "high-school aged" means "nearly old enough to go to college".
To be quite honest, I don't think a Movies Miles Spiderman is likely to happen. The Cinematic Universe tends to reinterpret characters in its own way, but starts from their more vanilla roots - and the vanilla root of Spiderman is that he's Peter Parker. Although I admit having Spiderman dramatically unmasking in Secret Wars and be revealed to not be caucasian would be fun, but the identity of the actor would probably be known for a few years by then and kill any sort of surprise to anyone who does not live under a rock.
What I'm hoping for is more female superheroes, and in a leading role. It's not as if Marvel lacked them but they seem ridiculously shy of putting them at the forefront (the Wasp will apparently have a supporting role in Ant-Man, and I'm tiring of waiting for Captain Marvel). I mean, come on, I know Elektra bombed but that was before the MCU...
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.
Sadly Agent Carter isn't doing as well as it should. I really don't know why. But at least there are currently three female lead comic book movies in the works, with the script of a fourth floating around. So there is some hope.
I think the issue with all the "minority heroes" is that they are not well enough known. They have to get up built first through TV shows, secondary roles in movies aso, just like they originally did with Batman and Spider-man. Sure, there are some cases in which they started out with a movie (Blade, Guardians of the Galaxy) but in those cases that was possible because it was an idea off the beaten path, and it certainly didn't always work out (Howard the Duck, Tank Girl....there are a lot of "let's try this one out" Comic book movies which weren't sucesses, to put it mildly). The usual way is to have first a series and then, when the character is fairly known to the general audience, to go for a movie. Marvel is currently working on giving their C-listers (meaning characters who never had their own show) some exposure, and I am hopeful that it will lead to more.
So I just looking over the rights page and it just raises questions. Who are the Power pack and why does anybody care who has their rights? Why is Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Inhumans, Captain Marvel, and absent and yet Cloak, Dagger, and Man-Thing are there? The Fantastic Four movies made money?
The Blog The ArtThat's the most concerning thing about the whole Miles situation to me. Miles isn't an icon....but the voices on the internet really want him to be one.
3 articles were posted a dozen pages back, and they all had the same tone: "Miles represents the future of comic books! Miles is what every young black kid growing up needs as their idol! Miles Morales needs to be the new Peter Parker!"
I fully understand the nobility of such a goal, but an icon is a lot like an Internet meme: the more you force it, the more likely it is to fail.

Posting here again, at a quieter time. Copied and pasted from a comment section that I was in. "Okay, hear me out. Spider-Man is an adult. He has a daughter named Mayday. She has spider-powers. Her best friend is named Miles Morales. After she gets her powers, she confides in Miles. On accident, he ends up with spider-powers. Boom! Triple spider team-up story!"
You forgot Big Hero 6.
@ comicwriter
There is one poster who only ever seems to show up here to ask about U.S. Agent.
First of all, I'm the one who asked that. Second, to be specific, I asked in regards to how they'll handle US Agent in MCU?
I thought the "Peter Parker's parents where secret agents" plotline was stupid when I was ten...
Really? Even the bit were they met Wolverine, complete with the guy complimenting Mary for fighting, despite being pregnant with Peter?

Okay, this is probably wishful thinking, but now that Sony and Marvel have worked out their deal, is there a chance the Spectacular Spider-Man could continue as a comic or something?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. If you don't take appearances in other films into account, maybe. There's no way Spider-Man's going to be left out of the big crossover films, and that gives Peter Parker more time in the spotlight. Making it all the more brutal when he dies.
I mean, that's just how I'd do a Spider-Man series of films that incorporates both Miles and Peter.
I am actually more curious about how they intend to introduce Spider-man...I mean if they want to do it before the solo movie, it has to happen in either Civil War or Dr. Strange. So, what, will he just swing by? Or do they start with a reportage or something like that about the various superheroes (Daredevil aso) which keep turning up?
The more I think about it...just the fact that all those new heroes are around might be the final push towards Civil War. Because the Avengers themselves might not have secret identities, but I assume that Daredevil and Spider-man will have them. And while I can't see Tony going pro-government, he is kind of a control freak. I can see him not liking the idea that some superpowered people running around doing what they want. While Steve would trust in them doing the right thing until they proof him wrong.
I wish, but unfortunately that's another bag of legal tape since their movie studio and television studio are two separate entities.
Specifically, Sony has zero television rights to Spider-Man. They have no negotiating power, because they have nothing Marvel wants, except the movie rights, which they're clearly not willing to part with.
My friend is a huge Agents of SHIELD fan, and she just can't get into Agent Carter, because of the pacing. She said she felt like nothing was really happening. Granted, I haven't seen last night's episode, and that was just after it was revealed that the Black Widows were involved, but I can kind of see her point. The show's events do feel very small until Peggy goes to Russia.

I really don't get why peter needs to exist and die in a setting for Miles Morales to be a part of it; for all we know it could have been Captain America that died for Peter Parker's lesson instead of Uncle Ben throughout the majority of the multiverse.
If I where to have an ideal scenario for the new movie it'd be Miles Morales as the eager-to-please sidekick of Spider Woman. Jessica Drew or Gwen Stacy, either's good.
You are not alone.
