Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Just recently found out, still ecstatic as hell. Spidey makes it to the MCU and Sony is still left with some amount of control over the character's film career. Seems like a nice win-win for everybody (unless maybe the people who wanted to see Sinister Six). Admittedly the sudden shifting of everything to fit Spidey in is a bit worrisome, but I've gained enough trust in the MCU to hope it will work out.
As for the "Peter vs. Miles" debate that has once again sprung up, I will repeat what I said when it last came up: it's all a matter of legacy. Samuel L Jackson can step in as Nick Fury and effectively rewrite the character in the comics because Joe Schmoe in the general public of the audience doesn't know Fury's normally a white guy. Captain Marvel can skip the whole Mar-vell business and jump to Carol because Joe Schmoe doesn't know. But now we're talking about Spider-Man, one of the most recognized superheroes in the world with a legacy spanning 60 years. One does not simply replace Spider-Man. Joe Schmoe will notice, and if he was scratching his head at whatever the hell was going on with Johnny Storm he's gonna flip off his seat wondering what they hell you've done with Peter Parker.
I do like Miles. He is a nice breath of fresh air, he reminds me a lot of Tim Drake with his supporting cast, and he is overall a worthy addition to the MCU. However, to replace Parker would require one of two actions with Parker's legacy: give it to Miles, or ignore it completely. The former at worst gives you Black Peter Parker and at best gives you some hybrid of the two, neither of which I feel is respectful of either one. As for the latter, understand what that entails. That's 60 years of stories and romances and villains. Are you determined enough to make Miles a cultural icon that you'd be willing to give that legacy up?
There is one poster who only ever seems to show up here to ask about U.S. Agent.
Making sure something now connected to the MCU isn't a huge piece of shit is probably incentive enough. The move itself is kind of risk since Sony still has the final say and a connection to the MCU.

So has it been said anywhere if the Sinister Six and Venom movies might end up relating to the MCU, or are they still their own thing?
This song needs more love. Most people won't care if Spider-Man is Afro-Latino, although a lot of black and latino kids would love it. I'd certainly like to see their faces light up when they realize the greatest hero they love looks like them, is basically a normal guy instead of some crappy stereotype and is treated as such, and also has the adulations of the masses cheering them on.
….Wow, I make one comment about how I wanna see miles morales on the big screen, and suddenly it turns into a whole lotta arguing. Let me clarify.
I LOVE Peter Parker. He was the first superhero i ever learned about, and his story can make a great film. But his story has been told over and over again. How many more retellings of his story can we put to film?
Miles, on the other hand, kinda feels like a breath of fresh air. I dunno how they would tell his origin story without telling peter's though, cause they are kinda linked.
I dunno. I like both characters! They are both very different spider-mans, and i think it would be equally awesome to see them on the big screen.
It got lost in the shuffler due to the whole Miles debate
but as of right now Sinister Six is still in production, but they're apparently nuking the current script and it's no longer being released next year.

I'll say it again, if Marvel had infinite resources I'd be happy to see movies for both Peter and Miles. But Marvel doesn't have infinite resources, and Peter's got seniority. Besides, there are other alternate-Spideys that probably deserve a movie just as much as Miles. Spider-Girl, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099... All Miles really has going for him compared to those other guys is that he's more recent and he's from the Ultimate Universe, which isn't too different from the regular Marvelverse, so a mainstream audience would swallow it better.
The other issue is that Peter is the main character of the entire Spider-Man series. The instant the main character isn't Peter, the whole premise of the series is changed in a fundamental way (unless Miles is made into an exact copy of Peter or something, which he really shouldn't be). And I'm not against watching a movie with someone besides Peter Parker as a protagonist, but I don't personally count it as a "Spider-Man" movie. It would just be the movie of another, highly similar character who shares some supporting cast. That's not a bad thing, but it wouldn't satisfy my desire for a Spidey movie (especially since all five movies so far have had their flaws. I'd hate to see Marvel just give up on making a good Peter Parker movie).
Anyways, about the spin-off movies, I wouldn't be surprised if they were re-worked into the MCU, but if that's true, it'll make the ending of Amazing Spider-Man 2 seem a little sad...
Harry: "I'm going to create an elite team to take down Spider-Man... in an alternate universe somewhere. In this universe, I guess I'll just lounge around or something."

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.![]()
It wouldn't be a spin-off of Amazing Spider-Man. In fact even before all this there was talk that Sinister Six was gonna be a "soft reboot" that introduced a new actor as Spider-Man.
That wouldn't be the first time that happened. X-Men Origins: Wolverine ended with a Sequel Hook for an adventure in Japan and while the sequel did take place in Japan, it had absolutely nothing to do with the prequel whatsoever and in fact tried very hard to ignore it.

Last thing I'll say on Miles discussion. It's possible for the two characters to co-exist. We've seen it in past Marvel films so it's kind of a redundant argument.
If Sony is still going to do a Sinister Six movie, then a Peter and Miles vs The Sinister Six would actually be pretty badass. Norman/Otto tries to recreate the Spider-formula and a young Miles Morales ends up gaining powers.

Actually, if the post-Secret Wars Marvel Universe puts Peter and Miles into one setting with them both alive and operating at the same time, then there are good odds the movies will follow suit. Of course, I doubt they'd each get their own movie, so then the issue becomes figuring out how to divvy up the screentime...

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. Now I really feel bad for poor Andrew Garfield, though. Here's hoping things shine for him anyway. He always gave me really nice guy vibes.
Although I suspect no one really cared about the SEEEEEEECRET! subplot thing about Amazing Peter's parents, I wonder if we'll at least get a Word of God confirmation about how it was supposed to end?

Kate was Hawkeye while Clint was Deadguy.
When he came back to life, he was Ronin instead or something.
And then he went back to being Hawkeye and I guess she just refused to change.
