Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So, does this mean that the Amazing films are retroactively set in the MCU? I'm kinda hoping it's not, because while I didn't think they were bad movies, they did kinda take some big liberties with the mythos I wasn't comfortable with, and that maybe by being in a new continuity, they don't have to stick to those decisions.

IF you don't think things will saturate...
But hey, no one would EVER get tired of Guitar Hero, right? Right? And trust me, Sony knows how to milk something dry,

You could argue the Spidey films wore out quickly due to a lack of diversity in their basic structure. The MCU has the advantage of being able to change up it's subject matter and genre in a way that a one hero franchise can't.
I think the MCU might wane eventually, but not in the next two years I'd think, especially considering the success of the two most recent films in TWS and Got G.

'Worthy? How could you be worthy?'10 bucks say they'll announce who will be MCU!Spidey in SDCC this year at the earliest.
Also, Holy Crap!
Is this really happening?! ![]()
That's...wait for it...AMAZING!!!
EDIT: Rejoicing aside, I can't help but hope Andrew Garfield doesn't have his career crash and burn after being Spidey for only 2 movies.

MCU has changed up some release dates
.
Thor is now November 2017, Black Panther is now Summer 2018, Captain Marvel is November 2018, and Inhumans has been pushed back to 2019.

I don't think that should be too much of a concern, the threat of major public backlash for retracting their only minority and female led films would be huge risk for Marvel to take. That and what would they put in to replace those films at this stage?

'Worthy? How could you be worthy?'I'm happy about Spider-Man but sad stuff's getting pushed back. I dunno about you guys but I don't have a problem with the idea of there not being another Spider-Man film until 2021.
Unless it's Miles Morales, in which case they should just cancel Civil War right now and do that instead.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Ugh. I'm going to hope that the pushbacks aren't related to the Spider Man news, but really...
There's also the fact that they already have an actor on board to play Black Panther, and Captain Marvel is their namesake hero. They want the latter to get more recognition, and they're too invested in the former to back out now.
There's literally no reason to shelve them, and no reason to think they will except for doomsaying.
EDIT: Am I the only person who doesn't give a flying fuck about Miles Morales?

Not necessarily. The MCU will implode under its own weight in 2 years. Book it. And I don't see how that will stop Spidey films from flopping.
