Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

...y'know, I'm trying to think of a pop-culture gag from a Whedon work that isn't just kind of a mild lampshade of the tropes of the show they're in, and I'm failing abysmally. I'm assuming they all happen in Angel or Dollhouse because I haven't seen those.
EDIT: Oh! "Flying monkeys!" That's one. And Galaga, I suppose, though in fairness that guy was playing Galaga so it's not like Tony was like "I'm gonna name-drop an 80s computer game and be hilarious."

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. So you can't even blame Whedon for it.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.James Gunn talks about GOTG 2
. He says that in addition to the mystery about Star-Lord's dad, we're going to meet several new characters who will be very important to the franchise and the MCU as a whole.
He also says the sequel is not based off any particular story.
What if Adam Warlock is his dad?
And what if the new characters added are Moondragon and Phyla-Vell and neither of them die?
That'd be a nice change.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMy personal leading theory is that he's the son of that brother of Black Bolt's, unless the Inhumans is going to be a terrestrial or near-earth story. I'd like to see something like War Of Kings come into play.
I guess he might be Thanos' secret son or something? That's part of what Infinity was about. Not the reveal I'd prefer though.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo I'm watching Iron Man 2, and not only did Howard Stark know he was going to dwarf the arms race with what he was doing, but Vanko actually had first credit on the arc reactor blueprints. I'm still inclined to believe that Vanko Sr. just go shat on hypocritically.
I wonder if Howard knew he was going to be killed by Zola.
Also, Hammer was playing golf with the Senator. I wonder if he was being vetted for HYDRA, or was in anyway involved. Interesting world they've built. Would've been really nice to have seen the Senator respond to the abduction of the President. But then you'd have to wonder why SHIELD didn't.

Gunn says he's introducing a new couple of characters to the Guardians. Gee I hope that's an intentional choice of words.
I'm not sure how I feel about the idea of Quill being part of the Inhuman royal family. For me the Inhumans are about two sisters dealing with the fact that one of them married them into royal politics. I DO like the idea of Thanos being Quill's farther; because Thanos is so much more interesting with his arbitrary attempts at being a family man. Plus; Thanos in love with death; why wouldn't he bed a woman who is slowly dying of cancer?
I keep coming back to Starmom's description of Starlord's dad as "an angel made of pure light."
I don't think Thanos quiiiiite fits.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I think we can safely conclude that whoever Peter's father is, he can't be an inhuman. After all, Inhumans are basically humans on which was tampered by the Kree, right? But Peter's second half is "something really ancient" which even Xandarians can't identify. I doubt that they wouldn't be able to recognize slightly tampered human DNA. Plus, in this case Peter would be more than only half human. though perhaps his father is a celestial.
"Angel of light" doesn't fit many cosmic characters in Marvel. Adam Warlock could probably be called one since he uses glowing magic a lot and has golden skin.
I keep thinking it's going to be Starhawk/Stakar Ogord. Hell, he even has wings of light.
(Sidenote, the wikia has a great quote from him: I am the wisdom and the glory of your ancestors. I am the light and the giver of light. I am your heritage and your destiny! I am the POWER that was Arcturus!)
Swanpride: Inhumans aren't genetically altered humans. I'm pretty sure they're a crossbreed of human and Kree.
@Celestial being the father: I'm supporting this for a couple of reasons. The first is that Quill was able to hold the infinity gem for a brief time, something only the Celestials have been known to do. The second is that they refer to his father as "Something ancient". That doesn't leave a whole lot of options. As for the Angel of Light comment my take on it is that the Celestial didn't physically appear before Quill's mother. It makes me think of how in Greek mythology Zeus impregnated a woman by appearing as a golden light/shower of gold that enveloped her. I'm guessing something similar happened here.

I do remember calling Inhumans back when Iron Man 3 came out, and Killian was going on about untapped potential.
