Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI have not actually watched Breaking Bad.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Probably!
I'm pretty positive Breaking Bad is as good as folks say it is but I will likely never be in the mood to watch it.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. It's rough going, yeah. Like, it becomes physically difficult to watch if you do it for too long. But it's the great modern Greek Tragedy.
Back on topic, I'm not terribly fussed that there's still waiting for the Jessica Jones series. It likely won't be too long after Daredevil. Couple months, maybe.
The Ant-Man prelude came out today and there's some nice stuff setting up the movie.
Hank Pym worked for SHIELD in the 60's and developed the Ant-Man suit for them. Howard Stark wanted it to be used for special ops but Hank refused to give it up or allow it to be mass produced because he was paranoid about what would happen if the technology ever fell into enemy hands.
Peggy Carter appears to have been his mentor and thinks HYDRA is gone for good. The poor dear.
And there's a pretty funny callback to The First Avenger.
And I also finally got around to reading the Age of Ultron prelude in full.
It largely revolves around Loki's scepter and it's shown that after New York, SHIELD discovered that despite thinking it was just an innocuous Chitauri weapon, the scepter gives off insanely powerful energy readings. A pair of scientists mention that it appears to have some connection to the Tesseract but that nobody, not even Selvig, can explain what the connection is. One of the scientists finally comes up with an answer and says "Could it really be that simple?" but is shot and killed by HYDRA operatives before the readers discover what he was about to say.
Baron Strucker has it moved to a base in Sokovia, a fictional war ravaged area of Eastern Europe. It's shown that HYDRA is hoarding a bunch of weaponry and tech scavenged from all the dead Chitauri.
We first see the Maximoffs when HYDRA approaches a group of anti-western protesters and informs them that HYDRA can grant them the power they need to strike back at their oppressors. They're careful to emphasize that in a world with Iron Man and the Avengers, they'll need strength on par with theirs to make any change.
It ends pretty much on the same note we've already seen. The rest of the protesters die when exposed to the energy from the scepter, but for some reason the Maximoffs live and are granted superpowers. As mentioned a few pages back, the scientist explicitly refers to them as having been "unlocked", not spontaneously granted. So I'm definitely thinking they're headed towards the Inhuman revelation.

Umm... did Mark Millar write this?
For those who don't click the link, this guy from Venezuela had surgery done on his face to look like the Red Skull. He even goes by the name "Red Skull" now. Ummm... Hail Hydra?
Yes, the photos will haunt your nightmares tonight. Don't scroll past the paragraph mentioning Robert Redford if you want to keep your eyes unscarred.
IMO he looks more like Darth Maul at the moment, but apparently he's not done with the surgery. This is probably going to feel awkward for him in a decade.
Oh yeah, I read that on IGN. Ick.
Also, You Tube version of Daredevil trailer:
Also, I kinda hope they reference Shuma-Gorath in the Doctor Strange movie...just because.
Because he's crazy?
I just saw the picture and Jesus Christ, there is something wrong with that man...
Hmm, I wonder if I have enough data to see that Daredevil trailer... Probably not, won't risk it. I'll probably be home in two weeks anyway.
When does the series come out on Netflix again?
The Blog The ArtApril 10, is what google tells me. HAIL GOODRA.
Goodra sounds like a kaiju.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo the old blind guy they show on the Netflix trailer, I imagine that's Stick (the man who trained Matt to use his other senses to their full extent)?
Also, I like how throughout the trailer, there was some beat in the music that sounded like sonar waves. Obviously this is to homage DD's sonar senses? note
I wonder just how gritty are they gonna make this show, what with it sharing the same universe as The Avengers, GOTG, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and all. I hope it isn't to the point where the characters drop F-bombs and S-bombs everywhere.

Word of God is that they plan on having it much darker and more serious than Agents of SHIELD but not as dark as something like Spartacus.
I have just had my fill of snark from Marvel. I just want one show or movie where every other line isn't a goddamn Whedonistic quip.
