Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Fantastic. So first Lego Batman 3 removes the free-roaming for no reason, and now this?
But, come on, the second Lego Marvel game can't be Avengers-only, can it? I mean, we know Lego Marvel has the rights to use Spidey/X-Men/Fantastic Four. Why would they randomly cut them out? How is there even enough content between two Avengers movies to hold down a whole video game? One Lego game usually adapts 3-4 movies! And Lego games always have, like, a gazillion playable characters. Even if this uses every superhero/villain from the MCU, it's still gonna be a lot less than last game.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Because Avengers isn't just two movies, it's a franchise spanning 10 filmsHEY and climbing. I would not be surprised to see levels based on the individual movies as well as the actual Avengers films proper.
I'm also expecting Lego Jurassic World to cover the earlier films too.
EDIT: Besides, even if they do just stick to the Avengers movies themselves, Lego The Hobbit covered two films and still had loads of characters, levels, and things to do. Lego knows what they're doing. Believe in the bricks.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Possibly in the handheld versions? They had a couple different characters from the consoles. But in the regular versions, Fury is the Samuel L Jackson version.
And as much as Lego Marvel Super Heroes draws from the MCU for its designs, it's still not based on the movies. It's based on the property, with no specific influence. Notice that they say characters, and situations from the movies.
I'm not particularly enthused about either of the Lego games coming out this year. I've never seen any of the Jurassic Park movies (and yes, Lego Jurassic World lets you play through all four), and Lego Marvel was so expansive that Lego Avengers is going to seem very small by comparison. There's just not enough characters.
x7 Well, The Hobbit was a fast-paced children's book with lots of distinct encounters that translate well into video game levels (the trolls, the spiders, etc), and Middle-Earth is a pretty deep well to pull playable characters from, whereas it's not quite as exciting to play as random MCU characters since most of them are normal people with no remarkable traits. (Oh boy, playable Darcy! She has the power to provide comic relief!) And Lego Avengers could have levels based on each MCU movie, but that could go the other way around and lead to some really rushed adaptations since there are about a dozen of those.

Still holding out hope on Lying Creator on that one because some rumors paint a nice picture for how he could cameo.
Well if you want to split hairs, most of that stuff did already happen in some form in the comics. The Ultimates was what they drew from for the movies in a number of ways.
And even in the 616, Widow's been a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent for most of her character history. Hawkeye recently became one as well.
Meanwhile, SLJ Fury predates the films and, in fact, the reason Samuel L. Jackson plays Fury in the films is because of a previous arrangement in which he signed over his likeness rights to Marvel for Ultimate Nick Fury to bear his likeness in exchange for being allowed to play the part of Nick Fury if they ever make films with him in them.

Are you saying there could be a "Lego Marvel 2" at some point in addition to Lego Avengers? That seems awfully redundant, and I don't see Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four holding down a whole Lego game by themselves. The X-Men, maybe... But I mean, there are already way too many identical Lego games floating around. Seems easier just to make one game for all of Marvel instead of splitting it up.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.I have no idea honestly what you're asking. I was saying Lego Avengers does not preclude them from making another general Marvel game like they've done in the past.
And no, it's really not redundant. They have a whole universe of characters who will be getting explored in the coming years so it makes sense to do another game focusing on the MU as a whole and not just the Avengers.

Lego Celestial Madonna: Thrill as a woman marries a tree. No not that tree, the other one. Groan as Kang doesn't take a hint and keeps returning to cause trouble. Gasp as Vision's secret backstory is revealed and years later retconned. Also Scarlet Witch gets a power boost that lets her cast Meteo. Its pretty sweet.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
I was concerned that the fact that Lego is doing a game exclusively for the Avengers movie is a sign that they're no longer going to include non-MCU characters in their Marvel games. It seems strange to me that they're not just going ahead and doing Lego Marvel 2 since the first Lego Marvel pretty much included everything from the Avengers movie anyways (Jackson Nick Fury, Hawkeye's movie costume, etc). You're right, they could make Lego Avengers AND Lego Marvel 2, but I don't know why they don't just incorporate elements from the movie into Lego Marvel 2 like they did with the first game.
EDIT
So you think they might have Avengers characters in the Avengers game to free up room for other Marvel characters in Lego Marvel 2? Yeah, that could be it. Seems kind of unsymmetrical with how they're doing the DC games, though (turning Batman into the Spotlight-Stealing Squad instead of making a separate Justice League game).

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. No, no. I don't think Kang has friends. That would require someone to like him. Kang doesn't even like Kang.

I wasn't suggesting they exclude the Avengers in later games but I guess that could be a possibility.
What I was saying was more that they're in a different situation than DC, since when the Lego Batman games began, there was less need to do a general DC Universe game because The Dark Knight Saga was DC's only viable film franchise.
Whereas with the MCU in the following years we're getting a slew of brand new characters and franchises outside the Avengers. There's Ant-Man, any new members they introduce in GOTG 2, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and the Inhumans. And that's not counting any other side characters who could potentially be introduced in those films.
So what I was arguing was that even if they're making an Avengers game right now to cash in on the movie, it's still likely they'll try another Marvel Universe game later since assuming Marvel plays its cards right, it's about to have a whole slew of new profitable characters to be used.
But most of those "new" characters were already in the first Lego Marvel game. This seems like a step backwards. Eh, whatever, I'm sure this is just being done to cash in on Age of Ultron. The Lego games are starting to become a dime-a-dozen, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising if they start spreading the Lego Marvel games a bit thinner.

And here I am waiting for Lego Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies...
