Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Apparently, she used to be a really good actress. Twilight seems to have murdered her ability.

Hey, maybe she's just really bad at romance. In which case, we have a perfect replacement for Natalie Portman when her contract is up.

She was brilliant in Panic Room; she actually upstaged Jodie Foster (And was in turn upstaged by Jerad Leto) I'm also really looking forward to seeing her in Equals, the 1984 inspired flick.

So one of the new Funko POP toys is causing speculation that the Gray Hulk might be in the movie.

It might just be a coloring error unless the Vision toy is meant to imply he's black and purple.

But he's from Brooklyn? Shouldn't he support their team?

Hell, both his parents are Irish! Shouldn't he be more interested in Rugby, Hurling or Gaelic Football?

The fun thing is, under Irish law, Steve Rodgers is a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, and is entitled to an Irish Passport, due to both his parents being Irish.

As a New Yorker in the 1930's, he'd be into baseball more than anything. He even knew which game they were playing at the end of The First Avenger because he had attended it.

Given that the team he'd most likely have supported no longer exists, it's difficult to say what exactly Steve likes in terms of sports. :P

The players would be dead, yes, but the leagues of the MLB have been around since before he was born.

The Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA over 10 years after Steve was frozen. He could, in theory, still be a Dodgers fan, but they're not his home team anymore.

For that matter, another possibility for his team, the New York Giants, moved to San Francisco the same year the Dodgers left Brooklyn. tongue
