Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well, I'm back in this thread after a long time of dodging spoilers and people talking about comic books.
Marvel is at San Diego Comic Con for the next couple of days and is expected to make a limited set of content announcements, with more scheduled for D23 in September. Besides some new reveals for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, it's not clear
what additional information we're going to get.
Personally, I am hoping for some teaser material for The Marvels, since hype is high coming off of Ms. Marvel.
Livestreams are scheduled on Marvel Entertainment's YouTube channel, starting at 4 PM ET today
and 4 PM ET tomorrow
.
We don't have a director yet, so presumably we'd need to know that first.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Meanwhile in the multiverse:
Deadpool 1
, Deadpool 2
, and Logan
are coming to Disney+ effective tomorrow!
No, I'm not making this up! The most R-rated Marvel movies in recent history are dropping explicitly on Disney+!
I figured this would be happening once they added the parental controls option.
Wonder what this means for Hulu though?
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonUS D+ started out pretty puritanical and uses Hulu as a dumping ground for more mature content (Love, Victor, Pam & Tommy by all accounts were on Disney+ elsewhere).
Were they under Star in the UK, or on 'normal' D+?
Meanwhile, in light of Logan and the Deadpool Duology being the first R-rated movies in (USA) Disney+, Ryan Reynolds argues that certain Disney classics should already be rated R.
Anyone want to guess what classics he's talking about? Might be less than subtle.
I refuse to believe Simba and Nala are related to each other. Get out of my head, Ryan!

Aaaanyway, back to the MCU... I think a Fantastic Four director reveal at SDCC might be likely. If Watts' departure didn't stall development that much and they were able to bag a cast, that would be surprising but I guess not impossible. Blade seems like it should be ready to unveil a cast?
Semi-cynical projection: Fantastic Four by DANIELS releasing 2024-5.

I've heard rumors that Spielberg will be announced as the F4 director.
I don't really think it's likely, but it'd be awesome if it did happen. I think he'd actually be a perfect fit for the team.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI'm less concerned about which story they will adapt and more that they develop the characters in the "MCU style" that means we actually give a damn about them.

I feel it's incredibly unlikely they won't tackle Doctor Doom at some point. I think people are more interested in him as a big bad than they are in the FF themselves.

For myself, I'm still hoping for more info on a Kate Bishop reappearance or any future large scale team ups to be honest.

The first Fantastic Four movie should absolutely not focus on Doom. If he appears at all it should be in a supporting role that builds him up for his future role as a major player in the MCU.
I think the new movie should actually properly feature the explorer aspect of the Four in a fun way. Maybe a journey to the center of the earth kind of deal with various subterrainian wonders, possibly with Mole Man as a villain since he was also the first supervillain they faced in the comics.
I expect that Doom will show up eventually, although I'll admit to not knowing much about F4's Rogues Gallery other than him. If he's going to become a recurring badguy, it's going to have to be in Phase 5, since Phase 4 is already pretty full.
And here we come to the big question: who is the Greater-Scope Villain of Phase 4. Is it Doom? Is it Kang? Is it Secret Wars/The Multiverse in general? Feige has said that the next batch of films will give us the answer, especially The Marvels, which is why I want info about it so badly.
Edit:
If the F4 go to the center of the Earth, will they find where that Eternal was born? That could be a cool tie-in.
