Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I correct myself, the last thing a franchise needs is an expy Superman, if you're not going to do anything interesting with him.
It doesn't seem to me that Sentry can contribute something interesting.
On the other hand, Hyperion does have potential.

The MCU already had a Superman-clone. Ikarus from the Eternals. They even did the Beware the Superman thing with him.
I've never read The Sentry or Hyperion's series and I've detected Sentry's particularly disliked on TV Tropes.
As The Boys (ugh), Kamala, America, and M'Baku illustrate though anything can be good with proper execution. MCU Sentry could be great.
The only Superman-esque Flying Brick character the MCU has at the moment are Captain Marvel and Thor, and each have their nuances.
EDIT: Crap. I saw the Eternals and forgot about Ikarus.

Guys have you thought about Ikarus from the Eternals?
Apparently he's an evil superman expy that already exists.

They could also bring him back if they desired
The Eternals do that sometimes
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIkaris is a fantastic character, probably the best one in the movie.
Mispelling any of the Eternals is expected, anyhow, their names are deliberately constructed to be mispellings of mythological figures based on its english phonetics.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Gladiator could be an interesting addition. Since while he's not a bad person,Gladiator is bound by a code of honor to serve the leader of the Shi'ar, and that same code sometimes puts him at odds with Earths heroes should it be what that leader wills.
Someone even drew what the character might look like if he was played by Cavil as well.

To be honest I think "Evil Superman" as a trope is overdone.
Also, while there isn't a 1-1 Superman expy in the MCU, I feel like there's quite a few of his traits scattered between characters. For example, Captain America fills a similar character archetype, whether it's Steve or Sam.
Leviticus 19:34Marvel has so many Superman Expies that it's really just a waiting game before they start showing up. As noted, we've already seen one of them.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.To be honest I think "Evil Superman" as a trope is overdone.
Vehemently agree. At this point we actually are starting to have more evil Superman characters than good ones. Give us a break, please!
Regarding Phase 4 of the MCU losing its steam.... I kinda agree with people that we've heard it before. It's easy to forget now but a lot of the earlier MCU stuff wasn't that well-received. In my opinion it's still a bit too early to say if they are losing it. Give them a few more movies.
Any Flying Brick with a cape inevitably gets compared to Superman. Thor basically only escapes the comparison because of Mjolnir tweaking his aesthetics more (e.g. the fact he usually can't get airborne without using the hammer's momentum).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Gladiator was intended to be a Superboy expy because the imperial guard were a lawyer friendly version of the legion of super-heroes
So yeah, Gladiator isn’t Superman because he’s Superboy
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Much as I loathe it The Boys is currently one of the biggest superhero franchises out there besides the MCU with its Superman expy particularly well-liked for how relevant he is and his actor's performance.
