Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

And Cap is about as commoner as a person gets, at least in a modern first world country.
It's also a thing in the comics that the hammer makes exceptions in times of crisis (it's why Superman was able to wield it briefly in JLA / Avengers despite normally not being worthy), but most of the characters who have wielded it besides Thor in either continuity don't appear to be examples of that.

Though I find it odd that Superman wouldn't be considered worthy.
He's one of the most honourable dudes around, among other things.
It really brings to mind what exactly worthiness means.
Like, MCU Thor became worthy when he willinging walked out to face the enforcer to try and talk Loki down, despite knowing he had no chance of fighting it.
That's something most versions of Superman would do in a heartbeat, including the one in JLA/Avengers, so how can he not be worthy?
One Strip! One Strip!Superman has a pretty strong do not kill rule for himself
A space viking god king probably needs that option on the table
Hell, Mjolnir herself said it’s mostly about willingness and ability to break any number of things and people with her. But she had a Mangog in her at the time so take it with a planet of salt
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOk, I can buy that.
Supes may be powerful, and he can fight, but he's never really been a warrior at heart. He gets no joy from it.
One Strip! One Strip!I wasn't saying the hammer only deemed people of noble/royal birth to be worthy, but that having that parentages gives your worthiness a boost in the hammer's eyes. So Thor, being the son of a god-king, can get away with having his various failings and still be worthy, while someone of common stock would need to be a lot purer of character to qualify.
I doubt Mjolnir cares about bloodline. I think Superman being unworthy doesn't really add up, though him lacking a "Warrior Side" actually would explain it.
Leviticus 19:34First mcu and comics are not the same and trying to figure out worthiness of one from the other doesn't fly. The humility/self sacrifice factor of Thor 1 may or may not apply to the comics one.
Everything comics is Depending on the Writer so there are no hard and fast rules but spidey has beed denied worthiness explicitly for the no killing rule. In the earlier DC vs Marvel book Wonder Woman was worthy and modern Diana's thing is being willing to kill (as much as I hate it) so it kind of tallys there.
Edit: typos.

Hell in comics it's been retconned that Mjolnir actually has a sentient Godstorm trapped inside and it can decide who is worthy to wield it or not.
Making the worthiness requirement completely meaningless as it's now at the whims of an inhuman whether pattern that craves destruction.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
I'm really glad that last episode was small stakes. I was pretty lukewarm on the series throughout that whole djinn detour. I've talked to death about it in the actual Ms. Marvel thread so I won't go on about it here, but overall I enjoyed the show.
It did get me hyped for The Marvels. I've just recently realized that The Marvels is the first real "crossover" event we're having in Phase 4 (aside from NHW, but that's not the same thing). The best part of a shared universe is introducing disparate characters and then seeing them interact. That's something this phase has been lacking so far — lotta setup, not much payoff.
regulation pigeonAccording to casting rumors, Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist might become Sue Storm
https://scaremag.com/2022/07/supergirl-star-melissa-benoist-tipped-for-fantastic-four/
Benoist played the girlfriend of Miles Teller's character in Whiplash. And Teller played Reed Richards in the 2015 Fantastic Four film. So, this would be Hilarious in Hindsight if true.
Not only that, the article itself mentions other actresses as well.
Haven't we moved on from just sharing random links? If something isn't confirmed by someone who works for Marvel, or one of the big trades, then you might as well not bother with a link and just say whatever "trust me, bro" idea pops into your head.

I'm curious who is more worthy than Thor and is being denied?
Of course worthiness is a very subjective term presumably defined by Odin somehow.
