Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Sorry, W’Kabi as BP truthers: Daniel Kaluuya isn’t in the sequel
, citing scheduling conflicts with Nope.
Less so a creep, and moreso willfully ignorant and unpleasant.
If T'Challa's death does stick, it might really affect interest in the Black Panther franchise going forward. There ain't no Continuity Reboot happening.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Coogler may have left his grief overtake him there.
They probably should held off on answering what to do for a while but they instead went with immediately saying they won't recast Boseman out of a desire to honor him

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'm starting to grow an active hatred for all discussions of T'challa's recast or lack thereof. It's a terrible situation involving a man's death and everyone on the internet is unshakeable that they know what's best and any other alternative deserves nothing but scorn. People need to get a grip that this isn't a simple situation with easy answers.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I generally think not recasting results in a net negative where representation is concerned, sends a poor message and - speculatively - probably wouldn't have been what Chadwick wanted (hence his family being like "just do it").
It's something that absolutely makes sense for Hollywood to do, but it's ignores the context of the character's presence, which is unfortunate.
I feel like dismissing people feeling very strongly about representation enough to have a distinct opinion about it as fan entitlement is kind of gross. People pinned a lot of hopes in regards to how black characters would be represented by Hollywood on T'Challa, and so it makes sense that there would be a heavy fracturing when the actor died and nobody knew what to do about it.
Also, people have varied opinions about representation and how black characters should treated by film because it's a complex issue where there's no clear cut solution, not in spite of it.
I'm not talking about discussing the matter in general, I'm talking about these types of fans Gaon mentioned, the types of fans who think only THEY know best and aggressively talk down anybody who offers a different opinion.

Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianYeah, I've seen my fair share of the #RecastTChalla people online. And while I understand their passion, it's just getting to the point of delusion in my opinion. I get that Chadwick's death and how it affects the Black Panther franchise makes people very passionate about it, but...c'mon guys. Don't harass the creators about it.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Give him another heart attack (or otherwise write him out) and have him replaced by an expy. Ross's claim to fame, his connection with the Hulk is barely used in the MCU, there's no reason you can't use any other character to film his high handed government authority schtick.
Eta: Sorry that was my suggestion, no idea if Marvel have said what they're doing about the situation.

I can accept at this point that they aren't going to recast T'Challa. I don't particularly like it, but Marvel has made their stance and it's too late to change anything at this point.
Heck, replace him with Gyrich now that they have the rights to him (yeah, Gyrich was apparently considered an X-Men character as far as movie rights were concerned. Go figure).

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonHe was in Avengers comics a lot too, being the face of the government jerk jerking the team around.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMost of the comics I've read with him are about him being the Avengers' asshole government guy, so I've always kinda associated him with them more.

Part of me suspects the reason Marvel pushed for Isaac in the first place was so they could try to nominate him for the Best Actor slot and get that awards clout, only for Scenes from a Marriage to beat them to the punch
Then again he strikes me as the Doing It for the Art kind, where even if he doesn't get an award for it he still had a good time giving an awards-worthy performance for its own sake.
