Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

CGI eyes has to be one of the most ridiculous true stories to ever come out of the production of a major film.

Dang. Didn't know anything about that.
I've only seen Snipes in New Jack City, and while I did enjoy him in that film, it does seem crazy that he'd only ever refer to himself as "Blade".
At least he's supportive of Mahershala Ali tho
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Blade, Matrix and the even earlier The Crow in 1994 (incidentally another superhero movie of the 90's, a pretty good one in fact) are all inspired by the techno, goth and raver scene that exploded in the clubs of the 1990's. So everyone is decked in leather, shades, chains and occasionally a shitload of BSDM apparel.
Someone earlier noted The Terminator, but I think Terminator is only a indirect influence. The source really is the rave scene (tellingly all three of those movies feature at least one scene in a rave, Blade opening with one).
It's a cool aesthetic (if also utterly ridiculous, and I say this as someone who everyday wear isn't far off from a character in one of those movies). It's a shame it got basically buried six feet under in the anglosphere by the Columbine Shooters being decked out in a loosely similar get-up. I'd like if the Blade reboot tried bringing it back (or some modern variation, I don't know what the techno vibes are today).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I'd honestly rather have the vampires have something of a fash/Proud Boys vibe here instead of the Y2K aesthetic of the originals.
I'd find hilarious if Mahershala Ali decides to rock the classic Blade look
◊ to stand out from Snipes' version.
The Vampires being white supremacists always seems like a connection Blade movies and comics missed out on. There's subtext (Blade II has villains quite openly discussing a "master race" but they're being literal in that description whilst discussing uber vampires of sort) but no one has gone to bat for the 1:1 link.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."They could use his look from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
Note that his appearance in that show was about a year or two before his movie came out, and is how I first heard of Blade. I always figured that one two punch played a big role getting Blade into the public eye.
One Strip! One Strip!I liked the bit in the recent Moon Knight run where Moon Knight decided 'well vampires are those who travel at night too so if you're not dicks, I'll protect you too'
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's pretty cool of him.
Though I'm not sure if Vampires know how not to be dicks.
One Strip! One Strip! This specific example vampires had just been turned so they hadn't learned to be dicks yet
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe run has him rescuing a bunch of people forcibly turned into vampires as apart of a cult pyramid scheme
MK kills the vampires driving the truck but he leaves the rest alive because they didn't want to be vampires
He even hires one of them, Reese to be his receptionist for his Midnight Mission to help her out
She's adjusting decently, taking night classes and drinking blood bags which I assume are donated

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."His appearence in the Spidey cartoon is an approximation of how he looked in the comics at the time: red shirt, spiked leather jacket, fade
◊. He actually showed up in the cartoon because the movie was being made and Marvel wanted to tie it in a bit.
The character of Whistler actually made his way from the Spider-Man TAS cartoon to the movies (in the comics Blade's mentor is a black jazz musician vampire hunter called James Afari, but otherwise him and Whistler fulfill the same function). This resulted in a rights kerffluffle where New Line Cinema argued they own the rights to Whistler (as he was created for the movie and retrofitted for the cartoon), so there's a good chance the Blade reboot won't have Whistler in any capacity.
Another comics element largely ommitted from the movies are the ties to Dracula (aside from the third movie featuring a very loose adaptation of Dracula). Blade technically made his debut in comics teaming up with Quincy Harker and Rachel Van Helsing (descendants of Dracula characters Jonathan Harker and Abraham Van Helsing). I wonder if they'll approach that. It was always a weird tidbit that Abrama Van Helsing et all existed in the Marvel comics as Dracula is very clearly a work of fiction (Dracula himself you can bullshit that Bram Stoker was inspired on the lore of Vlad Tepes and happened to be correct) but it's going to be funny for the movie to explain "listen Bram Stoker's book is basically a historical document and we're descendants of fictional characters."

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Personally regarding Blade I just hope they won't go the Always Chaotic Evil road for vampires, because that's by far the least interesting take on vampires ever.
I hope they have interesting abilities and weapons.
As in not just have them be generically strong and fast but bring in fun magic shit.
Like this Viking vampire with teleporting axes from the Castlevania anime
That be fun, Blade just killing these crazy-looking vampires with trippy weapons and abilities

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Incidentally, the original ending of Blade would have had a Sequel Hook where Morbius makes a cameo. You can see it here
.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Here's kinda what I'm hoping for as far as Blade's progression goes:
- Blade: Establishes him and Hannibal King, focuses on Deacon Frost.
- Blade: The Tomb of Dracula: Brings in Moon Knight and Elsa Bloodstone, obviously deals with Dracula but doesn't kill him (probably involving a detente at the end). Introduces Varnae in the post-credits.
- Elsa Bloodstone: Focuses on her, Werewolf by Night, and Living Mummy, Blade enters late. Deals with Varnae, Lilith awakens in the post-credits.
- Midnight Sons: Brings everyone together + Jennifer Kale, Man-Thing, Johnny Blaze, Robbie Reyes, and Daimon Hellstrom, deals with Lilith and her spawn.
