Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

True but at least they still have some degree of their recognizable abilities. Sure Drax has none of the intelligence or skills he displayed in the source material but he's...... somewhat strong I guess and he has his knives.
The Nova Corps meanwhile are completely powerless and their actual boss the Worldmind hasn't been mentioned at the moment.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Thinking of Black Panther, I'm reminded of T'Challa's like he said to Killermonger after he said he could help all black people
"I am not king of all people, I am king of Wakanda"
Knowing how smart he is, T'Challa probably realizes there's a lot of issues with a powerful country enforcing itself on the rest of the world.
Look at the British Empire and the US for a couple examples of how bad that can go.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I just finished finally reading Fantastic Four Life Story, wherein T’Challa did decide to help All of Africa by paying off all their debts with the world bank
This mostly worked narratively because we never got any information on how the African Alliance T’Challa was building worked so maybe Wakanda dominated the continent with its wealth and advanced technology or maybe he organized something more egalitarian
Also the vibranium T’Challa gave to World Bank Jerk Klaw was later loaned to Latveria as a business loan to create a world conquering army so it kind of backfired
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
It’s an interesting thing I noticed writers really want to engage in Wakanda exceptionalism without necessarily engaging in the issues.
Admitably it leads to a weird thing where T’Challa is simultaneously criticized for being a dictator but also criticized for not doing more to help the people of the world.
It’s kind of a “well which is it?” scenario.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's whichever one creates the most drama in the moment.
And that's the driving force of every decision when it comes to comics.
One Strip! One Strip!T’Challa wasn’t one of the main characters or antagonists so he could do world changing stuff benevolently without it blowing up or being a dick move
If it were Black Panther Life Story you can bet one of the nations he tried to alliance would be secretly run by Killmonger as a plot to destroy him or T’Challa would discover that random Wakandans were secretly going to diplomatic meetings specifically to punch diplomats or T’Challa would destroy the world economy like the time he did do that
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, that's a downer if true - and a complete 180 for me. Bill Murray is neither the kind of actor I'd want to see play MODOK, nor Ant-Man the movie I'd prefer to see him in (my big not-gonna-happen wish is The Marvels, but I'll take Ironheart or Cap 4).

My dream casting for M.O.D.O.K. would be someone who is both a) extremely hammy, and b) nasally. A raw, unapologetic cheese factory who loudly chews the scenery with every line of dialogue, but also sounds like the biggest fucking nerd you've ever met. Like Mandark from Dexter's Laboratory.
It would need to be someone who would sound good reading off the line, "Today, I DESTROYED my ex-girlfriend. Tomorrow: THE WORLD!!!"
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.How do you feel about the Patton Oswalt MODOK from the Patton Oswalt MODOK show?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersStill in Raimi's posse, Ted Raimi wouldn't make a bad MODOK, actually. He can be surprisingly intimidating despite his regular nebbish, cowardly characters.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

Just because de-aged is common doesn't mean they have to use it all the time.
