Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It was written by Bendis so yeah. A pretty bad era for Guardian comics in general.
Took until the Cates run for the Guardians to stop ripping off the movies and stop forcing so many Earth heroes on the team weirdly enough.
Amusingly by contrast Gamora finds Rider a suitable mate and is at one point disappointed when she thought he wasn't going to sleep with her after calling her to his room (he simply wanted to ask her to join Quill's new team, though he did still sleep with her afterwards)

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."His guardians run was sooooo empty
I can’t remember a thing that happened it, except embarrassing Tony Stark
I don’t think anything happened in it. I think it was just action beats in lieu of characterization to spin the wheels until the next event
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHey, random question for the X Meets Y page for the MCU. Can you use installments in the franchise to describe other works in the same franchise? Because there's a lot of them on that page, and it kinda bugs me.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Bendis' (fantastic) Daredevil run is in fact what really solidified him as a comics superstar. The earlier Powers put his name on the map, but it was that DD run that made everyone stand in attention.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."There's an argument for that as well (Powers-DD-Ultimate Spider-Man were all in very close proximity around the early 00's) but personally I always thought Daredevil was the one that made everyone go "we really need this guy", with Ultimate Spidey being just the crowning jewel.
Granted I might be biased because I prefer his Daredevil run.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I thought his Avengers stuff was pretty decent overall. Not spectacular or anything, but pretty good stuff mostly.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonWeirdly enough despite the poor reception to his Guardians it was still the longest Guardians run ever at well over 40 issues and even a relaunch.
Which I think Bendis did admit in the final issue after letter that he basically hoarded the title for himself to bank on the properties new success with the movie.
I think he did write one of the multitudes of Guardians spin-offs they released at the time.
This is also the same run where he forced a bizarre engagement between Star-Lord and Kitty Pride who is a bit of a pet character of his.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I don’t mind that conceptually
A lot of titles are able to be transferred to legacy and all of the higher things Star-Lord meant had long been filed away to make him more of a grounded sci fi hero
I don’t think much of anything interesting was done with Kitty as Star-Lord but that’s execution
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe only thing that came from Kitty dating Star-Lord is that now she's the one who dates all the Peters.
Piotr Rasputin, Pete Wisdom (which was apparently kinda skeevy), her Ultimate self dated Ultimate Peter Parker, and now she's dated Peter Quill.
That's four times (three in the main universe, and one alternate universe self) that Kitty has dated a Peter.
Like, I want to see this keep being a thing. Are there any other Peter's in Marvel?

One Strip! One Strip!Interesting commentary
by Raimi regarding John Krasinski's casting, from the official movie commentary.
He does imply that this casting might be a one and done thing, and might not mean that Krasinski will play Richards in the main MCU films.
I mean, he probably wouldn't know anyway. There's no reason why he'd be privy to any sort of contract information-he's involved in that end of things and there's no reason to think he has concrete plans to do anything with Marvel again anytime soon.
Waldron might know, but again it's very unlikely. Even Sarah Finn probably wouldn't know.
I just hope this doesn't end up being a Time-Shifted Actor thing...
I expect they'll want a relatively young actor for Reed. Xavier too. They'll want someone who they can reasonably expect to still be playing these characters in ten years.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

Yes, during that weird time when Tony joined the Guardians of the Galaxy
It was not a great time for him
Rocket made fun of his armor constantly for being shit tier compared to space technology
Gamora nearly broke him
And he made another alien woman nearly vomit with his beard
