Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I wonder if The Marvels is going to de-power Carol Danvers. Not entirely but take her down a few notches. It would help explain why she barely aged between her film and Endgame but will now start aging at roughly a normal rate if they keep using her.
Get her closer to Monica and Kamala's power levels so they can be usedful as well.
I don't think they nerf Carol, I mean we're talking about a universe where normal people like Black Widow and Hawkeye were on the same team as physical gods like Hulk, Thor and Wanda.
I also think that aging is not something that they give much importance to, since logically Loki and Thor have aged in real time, but it is not indicated on-screen.

Like doing the Rogue storyline but having her only absorb half of Carols power?
Though doing that would definitifly lead to accusations of Marvel trying to cater to some of the most toxic parts of the audiance.
Marvel also has already kinda stopped treating her as unstoppable with What If having her and Thor fight pretty evenly matched.

Of course being on the same team can lead to some inconsistencies, like a random villain giving Carol trouble, only to be defeated by Kamala, even logically anyone who gives Carol trouble should be completely out of the league. of Kamala, but are normal inconsistencies.
I mean, for example look at Corvus, where the plot itself doesn't decide how powerful he's supposed to be. (One minute he's giving Wanda trouble, the next he can't beat Black Widow.)

I don't know they already noticeably side-lined her in Endgame, partially because it's the O6's swansong and not her movie but also because well when she turns up the Battle Of Earth is effectively over.
They either need to tone down her power, or do some clever writing where her powers are irrelevant to the challenge she faces.
I do wonder if they were address the aging aspect at all.

They've barely even established anything about Monica's and Kamala's "power levels". And the former, in the comics, is one of the most top-tier OP uber-broken characters ever written. Comic book Monica makes Carol's powers look quaint. She's basically living light, except when she polymorphs into things like gamma radiation, cosmic rays, radio waves, etc.
If it's a physic, Monica can be it. While also moving literally at lightspeed (and not Versus Debate "I calculated it to be light speed") and being able to become invisible and completely intangible at will. Oh, and she doesn't use human senses like sight or smell, since she's a hard-light construct; She has cosmic awareness that just grants her absolute perception of all things around her, period.
If they write Monica with even a fraction of the powerset she has in the comics, then Carol won't need a nerf to be around her level. She'll need a buff. And a hell of a buff, at that.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Like what is the thought process here?
Apparently he started wearing it after a mission in Mexico where he became acquainted with Santa Muerte, the folkloric patron saint of death. So it's a religious homage.
"All you Fascists bound to lose.""If they write Monica with even a fraction of the powerset she has in the comics, then Carol won't need a nerf to be around her level. She'll need a buff. And a hell of a buff, at that."
To be fair, if most characters had a fraction of their powerset from the comics, this would look like Dragon Ball Z.
Although many fans complain about comic book characters being nerfed in adaptations, it has always seemed necessary to me.

One time, Monica turned into neural electricity and linked all of the smartest brains in the Marvel Universe together to make a super-brain.
Seriously, this characters is beyond ridiculous and the idea that Carol needs to be nerfed for her sake is hilarious. Let Carol be strong, and let Monica be the most insane thing the MCU has ever seen.

My bad, I said that without knowing much about Monica Rambeau outside MCU. Though she has barely demonstrated her powers there that is also a fair point.
Kamala though to the best of my knowledge is not on an effortless smashing giant starships level.
And the point remains they either need to keep their powers fairly restrained or write threats they can't confront by use of powers.

Oh, no, Kamala's definitely not up there. Kamala's just got the Elastic Person powerset, which she mostly uses for shrinking and growing rather than the typical uses of the Elastic Person powerset.
But a well-written story has room for people who aren't the biggest dog in the yard. Thor: Ragnarok, a movie featuring both Thor and Hulk, managed to find things for Loki and Korg to do. Avengers: Endgame had Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man right there, and still found roles for Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nebula, and Rocket Raccoon.
There's more to a story than just the final boss fight. And there's more to a good final boss fight than a straight comparison of feats to see whose muscles are bigger.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I think Kamala will play the role of Naïve Newcomer in the group so her being weaker would fit in with that. She will probably focus more on using her powers in creative ways to solve problems rather than raw strength.

It’s funny because you’d expect Monica being OP to be a modern thing when people with more science brain started really pondering how her powers should work
But almost right from the jump, Stern flexed science muscles with her. Even having her learn to become neutrinos which are almost entirely undetectable and unstoppable
Because she wanted a way to go through things that wouldn’t expose people to excess x rays or high radiation
Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Tobias Drake Seriously? Have I not been saying all along they can keep the powers but they'll have to have cleverer writing to make it work?
And Endgame isn't a great example. Black Widow's contribution is dying. Hawkeye's is running away with the gauntlet and then being forgotten about and Steve gets a massive power up to be on Thor's level.
In the movie she takes off her sash and it cracks the floor
The Inventor: “Weighted clothes??”
