Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Man, I still can't get over how dirty they did Taskmaster in the movie. We didn't even get any cool moveset-mimicking fights that weren't already shown off (nearly in full!) in the trailers.
Is there a term or a trope for that? When a movie prematurely blows its load in the trailers and leaves nothing for the actual film itself?
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The closest would probably be Trailers Always Spoil.
But yea they really only did the barest minimum with the copy abilities.

I think the handwave is that he can temporarily turn off pain, so he can push himself past his limit to briefly copy superhuman feats. But he literally rips his muscles apart to do it.
That is actually a thing yeah.
Its a tactic for him to put up a video of some fight moves and then play it 2 times as fast which he can copy that enabling him a sort of super mode at the cost of it being too much strain for his body.
I'm pretty sure he drank a super soldier serum or something that upped his physical stats.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I always thought the UDON look was the best look the character had (and that miniseries was itself pretty fun).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The funny thing is that as originally portrayed if Taskmaster wound up having to fight someone in his skull mask, he’s already kinda lost
He never wanted to get bogged down in the supers punching supers game. He considered it initially but realized it was a suckers bet.
The real money is in teaching other suckers to get punched by supers for a paycheck
Taskmaster’s School of Mooks and Minions!
And it worked out great! He made a lot of money!
But it seems like he’s in a worse position nowadays where most of what he does is get punched by supers. He’s let his administration dreams die. Or maybe nobody wants to pay top dollar for a highly trained Taskmaster mook anymore
Not with the economy the way it is. You can just pay desperate people minimum wage or less to get punched by Captain America.
It’s sad. When a supervillain who didn’t want to be a supervillain has to supervillain to make ends meet
