Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Stallone's character, Stakar Ogord or Starhawk.
Something I read a while where Gunn mentions that he's important to the Marvel Universe and its their plan to see more of him in future films.
He's at least confirmed to appear in Guardians 3.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."In general, the Guardians of the Galaxy would be pretty easy to retire. Despite their name, they're not really superheroes by trade. They're basically mercenaries who occasionally get embroiled in these big apocalyptic galactic conflicts, often because of a personal stake. They answer the call to heroism when it arises in their vicinity, but there's no, like, proactive oath to defend the innocent or whatever with their characters. They're just trying to make money.
The Guardians franchise could totally wrap up with a heist movie ending. Where, like, the villain is some wealthy asshole or regional ruler, and at the end it's revealed that they looted the vault during the conflict. Everybody's a billionaire now. Dance party!

Hopefully Rocket stole some Pym Particles from Clint or Scott to help in that regard.
Interesting enough that enough galactic stuff has happened they can form the modern Guardians original reason for existing.
Their origin is not to dissimilar from the Avengers where after the Annihilation War Star-Lord decided to form the group as a pro-active strike force intended to nip galactic threats in the bud before they get any worse.
So he formed the group out of the strongest warriors he could gather. Its notable that when the group originally separated after discovering Quill had Mantis subtly brainwash everyone in to being a team, Rocket still agreed with Quill's overall and set up his own Guardians group.
Because someone has to protect the universe.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."But how do we get the MCU Guardians to go from self-interested mercenaries to genuinely noble heroes? I guess the events of Infinity War and Endgame could have everyone re-consider their goals as a group, but I'm not sure how sincere it could be.
I mean, I could see Rocket and Quill vowing to become better people after working with the Avengers and the Titan meltdown respectively, but I'm not sure if Love and Thunder and Guardians 3 are gonna go down that route with them.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."They aren’t totally acting out of self-interest. They saved Xandar from Ronan with no expectation besides stopping him because it was the right thing to do. And the teammates have different attitudes across the group about why to do jobs, like in Infinity War when Gamora wants to respond to the distress signal purely out of altruism, Rocket just for money, and Quill for ‘it’s right but maybe we’ll also get money’.
I assume they won't be in the movie much either. From the trailers, I feel like we'll get an action opening with Thor helping the Guardians and afterwards he'll tell them he's decided to retire, prompting the speech that Quill gives about the people you love.

Like confirmation of Nova, Nova is pretty similar to Captain Marvel, capable of light and as well high power energy blasts and shit. The power ceiling is getting higher.
Helps that it is space so you can fit a bunch of powerful as fuck characters there. Sure Carol can fly through space but there's only so much a person can go across the universe.
She and Nova can say wind up operating at different sides of the universe.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It would be a good sign of progression.
Going from smalltime disrespected mercs to true heroes willing to tackle any problems and known across the galaxy. Like going from the guys who just stumble and bumble into the problem to becoming the guys who find the problems and deal with it then.
Hell the Guardians of the Galaxy name is an ironic name, always said with a degree of sarcasm and backhanded insult. No better way than showing how the team reached the bigtime than actually being referred to as the Guardians of the Galaxy without quotation marks.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Kinda like how Korath legitimately calls Quill Starlord in their final encounter.
One Strip! One Strip!James Gunn has stated that the upcoming I Am Groot series is "not necessarily part of the Guardians Saga"
, so it's probably not canon.
Also, poster
.
Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) has a 'key' role
in Guardians vol 3.
I wonder if he's salty about what the Russos did to his characters.
Executive producer is an honorary title for people the film is obligated to acknowledge, but who have no creative control over the process. Often used for people who donated a lot of money to the product, but also used as a shout-out to important people who created something that the film is based on, or whose contributions outside the film otherwise made the film's existence possible. Stan Lee, for instance, was regularly credited as Executive Producer on Marvel films up until his death.
The title sounds big and important, so people often assume that Executive Producers are the real, true visionaries responsible for the film. But they rarely have any involvement in the actual creative process whatsoever.
For Gunn's part, his Executive Producer credit was granted to him because he picked out the Guardians' music and punched up their dialogue so that it would sound more authentic to his films. He didn't write their parts, mind; Markus and McFeely wrote the whole film. Gunn just made their voices sound correct.
There is a world of difference between:
- Deciding what happens to characters in a film.
- Changing the line, "I'm going in there even if you don't want me to," to "Look, asshole; I'm going in and you can't stop me."

They already set up another group of Guardians.
Though granted Sylvester Stallone is not exactly a young up and comer to keep the franchise going for another 10-15 years.
