Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Wasn't she supposed to have taken over Marvel Team-Up recently?

Like Peter even appeared in the first issue with her (it was apparently a "Freaky Friday" Flip) and more or less symbolically handed the torch to her, since he was the guy for Marvel Team Up back in the day.

Reminder Saladin who's currently writing Miles Morales ongoing also did a Clone Saga arc for him.

Yes there are no original ideas anymore. [lol]

Huh, and normally Saladin Ahmed is a pretty well-regarded writer too. I get that Kamala is seen as Spidey for the new generation but that doesn't mean they need to rip off Spidey arcs that closely.

The directors of Ms.Marvel said that if they get a second season they would want to put Bird-Thomas Edison.

Bird-Thomas Edison sounds like an Evil Counterpart to Revali from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

So I hear that Bradley Cooper is officially moving on from Rocket after Guardians 3.

Makes me wonder what will happen to the character in G3.

Well, we know we won't see anything of this team formation afterwards. Perhaps, they'll be supplanted by new space heroes?

Something's probably going to either devastate them, or break them up.

[up][up][up]Considering Isaac Newton was a Sorcerer Supreme and was a member of an early version of SHIELD along with da Vinci, Galileo, Archimedes, and Nostradamus, and Benjamin Franklin wore a mask made from Eternity's essence, the Marvel universe has some weird usages of famous historical figures.

I hope Rocket gets married and retires from the Guardians happily. Give him a nice ending, it's what the character doesn't think he deserves.

I hope the MCU gets away from the mentality of "if we're going to retire a character, they have to die / be removed utterly from the story." Sometimes a character can just... retire.

[up][up][up][up]Werent there rumors that his girlfriend from the comics would appear in vol.3? Becouse in that case you're propably onto something with that.

I definitly agree that Rocket deserves to just settle down peacefully afer everithing he's been throgh.

The Guardians would have an easier time retiring or just going And the Adventure Continues than most other heroes, because they're in space. If you don't see them around, you can assume they're out in space somewhere with their own stuff going on.

It's only when the heroes are on Earth, still alive and in fighting shape, but inexplicably sit out any and all "Avengers Assemble!" moments that questions start to be asked.

Granted, that's more or less exactly what happened with Steve Rogers already. He just retired.

If they want to retire Rocket Raccoon after Bradley Cooper retires, the Marvel Cinematic Universe should introduce the Micronauts as a replacement for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Yeah, Steve didn't just retire. He went back in time, lived out his whole life and is now an old man. He is in the "removed utterly from the story" camp.

Rocket has a good excuse to retire if he needs to be written out.

He doesn't have that long of a lifespan anyway.

I am curious if the the Guardians will be disbanded or if they'll continue onwards with an ever changing line-up.

Starlord, Gamora, Rocket and Drax die/retire. Final scene of the GOTG Vol. 3 is a bunch of evil rogues in a seedy space bar going "The Guardians are gone. There's no one else to stop us from blasting this joint". They then get blasted by unseen forces and one of them looks up to ask "who the hell are you?" to which he receives the response: "I am...Groot." as the camera pans to Groot leading the new Guardians composed of Adam Warlock, Quasar, Cosmo and Nova. The subtitles translate Groot's statement as "We're the Guardians of the Galaxy". Roll credits.

That would be an interesting line-up considering the Guardians films have made a point of maintaining a strict low-power ruffian grouping with even the more super-powered ones like Drax getting pretty nerfed.

Meanwhile Quasar and Nova alone are some heavy fucking hitters.
