Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Just be glad that:

1) He only limits his grudge to Stark;

and 2) That he never lost Hope (in both senses of the word) as well.

Cause we've seen that universe. It's not good.

Yes, to take revenge on Fury, he killed a lot of people who had nothing to do with them.

That's how petty Hank is.

And like, he at least had a good reason to hate a Stark.

Howard did apparently try to steal his research. I think.

Like, Howard doesn't deny it at all, and makes no attempt to defend himself, but it's entirely possible that he had nothing to do with the attempted theft, and only that one dude (who we later see is part of Hydra) was involved.

As for why he wouldn't try to defend himself, I rationalize it as Howard just being bad at that kind of thing, along with Hank probably being so convinced he was involved that nothing would change his mind.

That, or my Howard knew about the Hydra infiltration theory and deliberately acted like he did to make Hank leave so his research would be out of Hydra's hands but considering how often these kind of situations are exactly what they look like, I doubt it.

In fairness no one likes Hank either.

Its very much a case of pot calling the kettle black as we've seen that barring Janet, Hank has managed to make everyone who he's ever worked with despise him.

Hank thinking he's the good guy stems mostly from his own massive ego.

I give it a few years before Hank tries to pick a fight with Morgan Stark.

The only ones who don't hate him (or didn't hate him at some point) are Janet (who was trapped in another dimension) and Scott (who's just too nice a guy to hate anyone clearly).

I actually look forward to when Hank does something that pisses off Scott. Like, he says or does something that results in Scott just punching him right in his stupid Hank face.

Because if that's not a sign that you've crossed a line, then nothing would be.

Or Cassie being like "I don't give a fuck what my dad did for you or what arrangement the three of you had, and you can eat a dick" and not even entertaining him when he tries to pull the same shit with her or is generally just an abusive, exploitative asshole to her like he was to Scott.

The funny thing is considering how much Hope takes from her dad, that makes Scott the Janet in the relationship.

Considering his unending kindness and patience he has to show when putting up with the 2.

Definitely going to be the most antagonistic relationship between a Young Avenger and one of the OGs, aside from Billy and Tommy not being at all happy about having to deal with the mess their mom created.

Okay, I rather like Gorr's vaguely Cenobite-ish appearance here.

The Thor nudity joke at the end seems kinda tasteless and exploitative.

Gorr's design is pretty good though. Like if Voldemort finally got a nose transplant.

I'm still not on board with Gorr having a nose but this trailer does try to show some more interesting angles with him (like the monochromatic contrast).

Awesome we're getting the greek gods, hope we see Hercules, he's pretty damn funny, and he would fit perfectly in the MCU.

[up]x3 Can we even call it an MCU film without a Shirtless Scene, I ask you?

Anyway, looks fun. I agree Gorr's look works. I was wondering how they were going to differentiate him from Hela since she took some of his combat and visual cues.

Yeah Bale is the king of morphing his physique for his roles, so I imagine he did this to resemble comics Gorr.

Voice actor SungWon Cho AKA Pro ZD reveals he was almost in the MCU. Specifically, he was a finalist for the New Warriors tv show, but he didn’t get the part and then the show was cancelled.

I wonder if the casting directors watched his Marvel skits.

I wonder if the reason Jane thinks that it's been 3-4 years since she's seen Thor when it's apparently been 8 years and 7 months was because Jane was Snapped.

Notably, ProZD says not getting the part worked out well for him. Marvel would have had him under an exclusive contract, so he wouldn't have been able to take roles in other works until the show was canned.

And the reason he didn’t get the part was for being six inches taller then Matthew Moy. That annoyed him for being out of his control but nowadays he feels it worked out for him to get passed up.
