Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Maybe Marvel could make John Boyega one of the X-Men, or maybe the Silver Surfer. That would be pretty neat.
As for Daisy Ridley...given that she was the main focus of the Sequel Trilogy, maybe she could be a hammy, comedic villain that isn't the Big Bad, ala the Grandmaster or Collector to contrast Rey? I dunno.

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Yeah, Jericho Drumm is a good one for Boyega, or Night Thrasher. Ridley would be good as Jennifer Kale or Moondragon. Would say Prowler and Black Cat or Silver Sable, but Sony would fuck it up and so I don't want them ruined. I could also see Boyega as Ka-Zar if they want to subvert the Mighty Whitey issues.

That, or they cast him as Otacon in the Development Hell that is the Metal Gear Solid film and finally Oscar Isaac will get to have his Stormpilot OTP.
I always liked seeing Angel
given he was one of Marvel's earliest pulp heroes and has a beautiful role in "The Marvels Project" (which basically tells his viewpoint of the rise of the modern superhero in the marvel verse's 1930's to 1940's). Straczynski also had a fantastic miniseries called "The Twelve
" that was all about reevaluating obscure pulp heroes from Marvel (one of them including one of Stan Lee's earliest creations, The Witness).
I'd love to see that adapted someday.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."In an Entertainment Weekly interview
, Ms. Marvel's comic co-creator Sana Amanat talks about adapting the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Topics range from Amant's opinions on actress Iman Vellani, the thought process on Kamala being influenced by MCU Carol, and the coming of age tone.
Much like Feige days ago, she discusses and understands the changes done to fit the larger narrative goal of the MCU.
Sana Amanat: Obviously, so much of the show is an adaptation, and we thought it was important to make sure that her powers are linking to larger stories in the Marvel universe. We wanted to make sure there is a little bit more story to tell after this series. Obviously, she goes into The Marvels. The powers do look different, which is very controversial. I know people are like, "How dare you change the powers!" I know people are upset about it, but as someone who's probably one of the closest people to this character from the inception, and having spoken to Willow about this as well, I think Willow and I have always felt that this made sense. This was the right move because there are bigger stories to tell.
It's really fun to give Kamala different kinds of powers that feel big in scope and cinematic in a different way. We can do a lot of fun things with her. I don't want to spoil too much about how she uses her powers, but they're fun and bouncy. At the same point, the essence of what the powers are in the comics is there, both from a metaphorical standpoint and from a visual standpoint. We're doing the embiggened fist. We're doing the elements that make her feel and look kind of crazy, but also really cool. I think it's going to be familiar to people, but at the same time, different in a fresh and unique way.

I have an admitted fondness for golden age pulp heroes. Wish we could see more of them these days.
Okay I just now remembered this thing on the Nova trivia page
Wait when has that been said before? Has Gunn stated he dislikes Nova?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
IIRC, he doesn't hate Nova. He went on record that he's read at least "75% of Nova comics" in existence, as of 2019
. It was in response to a rumor that Gunn didn't know the character.
Two years earlier
than that, Gunn noted that Richard Rider was a recurring character talked about in development of the Guardians series.
Rich is supposed to be pretty powerful (though he only really reached that state once he moved on from the New Warriors), so it may be that classic Nova was thought to be too strong a member for a team of misfits as such as the MCU guardians.
One Strip! One Strip! Also undoubtably Gunn wanted Quill to be the only earth guy in the movie
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, I think it came down to "only Quill from Earth, no other special guys from Earth getting powers and overshadowing the cosmic-ness." It's also why Drax and Mantis had their humanity filed away.
But Marvel when Gunn started Guardians and Marvel now are two different things, and I wouldn't really be surprised if his opinion on bringing in Nova now (especially since Guardians itself is getting what's probably its final movie) is different.

Reminds me of a funny bit from the Guardians game where the group encounters the files for a bunch of cosmic characters, including heroes like Darkhawk, Quasar, Moondragon, and Nova himself.
Which leads to the group (mostly Rocket and Quill) making fun of how many humans there are in space despite Earth being regarded as a backwater planet and their names with Quill in particular getting incensed at being compared to them defending his similarly ludicrous name Star-Lord (which is based off a rock band he liked as a kid) cause its "actually cool while Darkhawk" "is just a bird".
The scene gets even funnier when you find out all those characters are pretty up there in the cosmic power scale and each are probably individually stronger than the entire Guardians team.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

Ya know considering how Oscar Isaac had the time of his life doing Moon Knight completely making up with his prior terrible Disney experience in Star Wars, I wonder what roles can be given to John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.
I remember a while back there was this one rumor of Boyega playing Nova, that be a fun thought.
