Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I felt bad for his actor. Man keeps putting his all into a performance that is fucked over by corporate politics. I'd like to see him back, suffer the same problem (i.e. someone seals his mouth shut) and he just rips the skin apart with a scream. Just let the poor man be Black Bolt in righteous fashion for once.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
And that's also a shame. The Nu-humans creation may have been questionable, but they didn't really do anything wrong. It's not their fault the entire thing behind them was stupid corporate politics, but they are the ones who died because of it, with only Kamala being spared due to her break out popularity.
One Strip! One Strip!
A sentient force of nature of totally alien and unrelatable thought processes and morality (to the point where agency in a human sense is questionable) that isn't even malicious, it just has tasks to carry out that happen to be at odds with the interests of a planet's inhabitants. It uses Heralds to translate its messages into terms most sentients will understand (which are usually "hey guys, sorry, but you're gonna have to find a new planet to live on"), and while it can be negotiated with, it is somewhat fickle and won't renege on an agreement, but may be exceedingly difficult to bargain with depending on how much longer Abraxas' seal will last.
Not as a fucking cloud, that's for sure. Gimme the big dude in the purple helmet.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI do feel like Galactus is prime fodder for the next Thanos, in the sense of Big Bad of an ongoing storyline. It would be a shame to just use him for one movie.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid![]()
I'd be fine with it keeping that shape, but still looking distinctly eldritch and unnatural, like that's just a guise that isn't really what it looks like but is the best that it can do with the constraints of universal laws. At the same time, I feel like it could ultimately wind up a Big Good in a way insofar as it is a keeper of universal order and instinctively acts to purge any sort of unnatural invader or abnormality - it's just not heroic or villainous in broader sentient terms.

Yeah, that sounds good. It even has a basis in the comics; the big purple guy isn't actually what he looks like, it's just the only way human minds can perceive him.
Tippy Toe sees him as a giant squirrel.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonOff-topic, but going a few pages back, I just realized that for genres that haven't been done in the MCU, Darkhawk could make for a great tokusatsu/henshin-style series. It could be a great 90s Super Sentai/Power Rangers throwback and capture that same feel with the titular character going up against ordinary criminals, superhuman foes, and various aliens and mutants in a MOTW format.
And yeah, I'm in favor of playing up the eldritch-ness of Galactus because an unrelatable Galactus feels so much more like some sort of inscrutable cosmic force instead of a big dude in a costume who eats planets.

Galactus has a little problem that his shtick in the MCU seems to have been done already by Arishem. Complete with the "I will judge if earth deserves to live."
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I would only really want to see Galactus in a Squirrel Girl movie, specifically doing that bit where he is going to destroy Earth, but then befriends her instead.
The issue with regular Galactus is that he’s a almost intentionally a one trick pony. He’s by definition an Outside-Context Problem - so it’s difficult to segue other stories into him or vice versa, there’s not an awful lot of variety or nuance in how he operates, and if you’re doing him right he’s not really evil so much as just kind of a thing that happens (which on the flip side happens to be his most interesting trait, so it’s not something you’d necessarily want to drop).
If you’ve seen one Galactus story, even a poorly made one, you’ve more or less seen them all m, and we already got that movie. So if I’d only want to see him if they did something very different and interesting with him.

Have it just be a standard "talk Galactus out of eating Earth" story, but then have Galactus stick around as a cosmic presence that maybe gets a Big Damn Heroes moment eventually in some kind of incursion or other calamitous event. That, and maybe eventually force a teamup when something happens that causes Abraxas to break loose.

If you want to do a Take That! to Ike Permulter, then kill a dude that looks like Ike Permulter.
