Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I am not a happy bunny about show!Kamala basically being diet Captain Marvel powers-wise because of ~synergy~ with Monica and Carol.
From what I recall of her comics origin, she was at a party and she wandered off into some Terrigen mist. Later, she embiggened her hand and saved Zoe (the local performatively-caring popular girl) and her boyfriend after they got drunk and fell into a nearby lake, even though Zoe was rude to Kamala and her friends earlier in the issue. Cause, y'know, it was the right thing to do and stuff. Wonder if there'll be a similar moment in the show or if it'll be "whoops, I just developed energy powers and almost exploded my teacher".
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrI hope they keep it similar at least in vibe if not in word. I think it works as a really good character establishing moment for Kamala that upon getting her powers and even while being confused about what's happening, she still goes out of her way to save someone—and someone who was an asshole to her and her friends even!—when she's in danger. It just says a lot about her and the kind of hero she is.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.I think the whole "distancing from the Inhumans" thing has more to do with the whole "NuHumans as a replacement for mutants" angle, which was widely unpopular from the start, while stuff relating directly to the Royal Family within their proper niche is something they want to work to redeem, especially with the Fantastic Four on the way.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonIt wasn't the only thing that killed it, but the X-Men Ban earned a lot of the badwill that screwed Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite over. "Functions" anyone?
In retrospect the Fox ban Dork Age is fairly short, only really kicking off by 2012-2013 and with the brakes clearly being pulled with rumors of the Fox buyout by 2017-2018. But it's a period that encompasses a relative ton of Marvel media: the point where the MCU breaks through to zeitgeist dominance (Captain America: Civil War, aka the movie where the MCU gets Spider-Man), most of the runtime of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the bombing of Inhumans, all of Marvel Universe, the lock-in of high-profile games like Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Marvel's Avengers, etc.
It's a good case study in how to make four years feel like forever, basically.

It was the Death of X mini-series.
Basically the Terrigen gas cloud that was spreading across the planet is poisonous to Mutants, so while the Inhumans are gaining new numbers, the Mutants are effectively being gassed to death all over the globe.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It really doesn't look good that their new persecuted group basically grows by gassing to death the old one. And how the Royal Family handled it was atrocious and gave them a terrible image.
And Mutants spent a lot of time basically in the edge of extinction, which wouldn't have been enjoyed by fans.

Wake me up at your own risk.
When you put it that way, the Inhumans might be able to make a comeback if they are able to get the Marvel Universe to acknowledge them!
Blackbolt is the head of the table after all.
