Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

With Norman Osborn so far MIA (probably forever), who would be the most likely to take his place at the conclusion if it leads to Dark Reign?
Psylocke being mentioned a couple pages back, I'm curious how Captain Brittan would be handled.
From what I hear he's more a fantasy character dealing with stuff like Avalon as well as the Captain Britain Corps.
He's also Psylock/Betsy's twin brother so it be interesting if they also made him half-Japanese.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."![]()
There's no reason to think it will lead to Dark Reign, or that marvel has any plans to do an adaptation of that story.
We don't even know who half the actors in Secret Invasion are playing yet, it's early to speculate on what series might come out of it. Especially when it's being said they're going for something smaller scale, which makes sense given the showrunner's previous work.
Like, I'm 92% certain POTUS will be replaced by a Skrull at some point, but I wouldn't speculate on how that will end up or be played in future stories.
Regarding the Skrulls and genre throwbacks, I have no idea whether it was a specific influence, but the take on them in Captain Marvel made me think of Alien Nation, as well as a number of comedies from the 90's where amusing alien protagonists are targeted by overzealous government agents. Thinking of things like Coneheads, My Favorite Martian, and Muppets From Space.
And I think it's clever how Carol and Fury basically think they are the heroes in a work where aliens are part of a sinister conspiracy (i.e. V or They Live!), but are actually characters in this kind of comedy.

Just have Betsy remain in her original body instead of swapping with Kwannon. Brian and Betsy could appear alongside Black Knight and start out there, and Meggan would probably also fit. I could see it being where the mystical and sci-fi sides of the MCU intersect, especially if one of the side effects of all this recent multiversal fuckery is that Mad Jim Jaspers either awakens his powers or threatens to invade from another universe.

@Hastur: Those are all pretty sweet ideas. I'd dig seeing them.
Jim Steinman actually proposed a Batman musical for eons back that I think had a good chance of being pretty great. Some of the songs got repurposed for Meatloaf's discography, and the proposed Villain Song for Gotham's corrupt elite is incredible:
(Also comical in hindsight after Morrison created Professor Pyg).
As far as Marvel goes (and aside from Dazzler) the Guardians of the Galaxy actually feel like they'd suit a Jukebox Musical pretty well given how musical their films are. Something like they reach a planet where everybody communicates in musical numbers and are forced to keep up with local customs.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."There’s probable value of making mystically appointed representative of queen, country, and universe descended from an immigrant family or however that would work
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's not even getting into how Prince's Batman album was originally going to be a collaboration with Michael Jackson, with Jackson on the hero songs and Prince on the villain songs.
Possibly even Skrulls impersonating each other
Oh, I'm hoping for that now. A last-second reveal that Talos's wife was impersonating the main villain's right-hand-man ever since the dramatic halfway point of the show where it looked like he killed her, but it was actually the other way around.

British-Indian is a relatively rare combo for superheroes. I'd be interested in seeing it.
That's wild, never knew it.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."That's a good idea.
Him and Brian were founding members of the original Excalibur.
You know, they could go nuts and just do for Betsy what they did with Carol and have her be Captain Britain already.
How strong is Captain Britain supposed to be anyway? It's implied Betsy is stupid powerful now (and not just because she was already a powerful telepath before she got the Captain Britain powers), so I'm wondering where Captain Britain stands in Marvel's Super Strength hierarchy.
One Strip! One Strip!Pakistan will have an interesting
release format for Ms. Marvel (2022):
Disney and Marvel Studios will be specially creating a cinema format version of the six episode series for Pakistan, split into three parts! This decision was made to celebrate the introduction of the first Pakistani Marvel superhero, Kamala Khan. Disney and Marvel did not want Pakistani audiences to miss out on seeing #Ms Marvel and her story as Disney+ has not yet launched in their country.

On the one hand, I do like that Marvel is trying to find a way for the people of Pakistan to see the hero that represents them in any way possible.
On the other hand, the last time Marvel tried to release episodic TV in a cinema format, it was Inhumans...

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."Yeah, but we all LIKE Kamala.
Nobody cared for the entire debacle with the Inhumans' push, but Kamala seems 100% exempt from that dislike.
I believe that, outside of the Royal Family and Moon Girl, she's the only Inhuman still alive.
Hell, outside of her (and again Moon-Girl), she's the only Nu-human who didn't get purged when Marvel did Death of the Inhumans.
One Strip! One Strip!Something I want the most in the MCU is a Captain Universe anthology series. Every episode features a different Captain Universe. Half of the Captain Universes are new and half are established characters in the MCU, though only one of those is an already-existing superhero.
Edited by PushoverMediaCritic on May 3rd 2022 at 2:41:13 AM
That could work.
Captain Universe is a great concept for an Anthology now that I think about it.
Especially with his The Hero that could be you tagline.
Kinda like that one version of Ultraman, who chose a different Human host every time. I can't remember his name though.
Actually, since Universe kinda came first, I guess it would be the other way around.
One Strip! One Strip!
