Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Stuff that could work for certain genres that haven't been covered yet:
- Cyberpunk: Maybe 2099? Age of Apocalypse could also be this with some tweaks.
- Jidaigeki: I feel like a Daken film or series could have strong elements of this, though this is also contingent on him being far less of a piece of shit in the MCU than he is in the comics. Wolverine too, but that's already been done in film. Maybe Psylocke?
- Pirate: Starjammers
- Kaiju: Monsters Unleashed
- Pulp adventure: Savage Land
- Supernatural detective: Elsa Bloodstone, maybe Sleepwalker?
- Exploitation: Maybe a Ghost Rider film or series - maybe not a full-fledged exploitation film, but it could certainly have a lot of influence from grindhouse cinema.
- Space Western: Skaar

Granted, the Ghost Rider isn't exactly the Crow. Ghost Rider's more of a Deal with the Devil gone wrong (not that those ever go right).
For heroic bloodshed, I could see elements of that working with Elsa Bloodstone as well, depending on how much DMC influence there is there. Her trademark dual-wielded rifles would be perfect for a gun-fu combat style, especially if there's a lot of Dante in her personality here alongside the obvious Buffy and Lara Croft.

It's how I could see her being a great foil for Blade. He's the cool, collected, pragmatic, humorless, and deadly serious vampire hunter, while she's the cocky, flashy, wisecracking monster hunter who gets shit done but makes sure she puts on a show while doing it.

That or Bayonetta and Jeanne, but with the antagonism and Teeth-Clenched Teamwork switched out for a Bash Brothers dynamic.
Elsa's rather more well adjusted than Dante who is something of a Sad Clown.
Disgusted, but not surprised...You know, people would probably make fun of it, but Batman could probably make for a pretty kickass musical if they were able to strike the right tone.
Oh God! Natural light! In the vein of Holy Musical B@man! or more self-serious?

I have not seen that, but while a bit of silliness is to be expected, I'd like to see them play it straight?
Oh God! Natural light!I'm not entirely sure if this entirely ties into the whole "potential new MCU genres" conversation, but I have been thinking about what Secret Invasion and/or The Marvels could take cues from, and I honestly keep thinking about how the tone of the first Captain Marvel film reminds me of Animorphs. I mean, aside from the whole teenagers turning into animals thing, the story being about a few humans and aliens in The '90s trying to stop an Alien Invasion by this genocidal imperialistic empire with unfathomable reserves is pretty similar to that book series.
It would be really neat to see Marvel explore some more themes and ideas that Animorphs introduced, particularly in Secret Invasion. The Andalites for instance, are established to be the Big Good in Animorphs, except we later find out that their military was planning to carpet bomb the entirety of Earth and "quarantine" the surviving humans just to get rid of the Yeerk threat, even though the Andalite civilians find that plan utterly horrifying. And given that paranoia is planned to be a theme in Secret Invasion, I feel that a similar concept or two could be introduced in that show. And that's just the tip of the iceberg in my opinion...

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."More gore and aliens flipping out over cinnamon buns and dying to oatmeal

Secret Invasion will probably end up dealing with more ambiguity than Moon Knight, honestly.
Given the creative forces behind the show, I fully expect some characters to be revealed to be Skrulls a few episodes or so in the series, with reveals both in the sense of a human transforming into their Skrull form, and vice-versa. Possibly even Skrulls impersonating each other

It's interesting to see a superhero version of an Exploitation Film resemble. Imagine a superhero movie with lurid and raw elements such as gore, zombies, bikers, cannibals and all sorts of grindhouse fodder. But I do not think it would be marketable since it would fall squarely on a hard R-rating.
