Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We did it, Contessa! We saved the city! Imagine if we didn't tell everyone about the monster!
That could be a neat way of setting up Doctor Doom or some other Latverian noble in a non-Fantastic Four adaptation. Like, maybe he hires Val for some reason, and she deploys John Walker to do something on behalf of Latveria, while giving him the impression that it's for a covert black ops operation that's in America's best interest. Could be interesting...

"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."I'm just wondering who else would be on it other than John. Definitely not Yelena; after Hawkeye, she knows better. My guesses:
- Ava Starr: Lost, probably looking for a purpose if she's been cured.
- Trish Walker: She's facing a life sentence, what does she have to lose by accepting an offer in exchange for her freedom?
- Bullseye: Fisk cost him basically everything and he has nothing to go back to.
- Daken: Would be a little premature to introduce him, but he tends to be on teams like this and it's Daken, so it's not like he's lacking in opportunities to fuck up spectacularly and need a bailout.
There was a bit from the recent Heroes Reborn thats a bit goofy but might work for a darker black ops centered team.
Heroes Reborn Squadron Savage Punisher. It seems like this is a better timeline for Frank. His family is alive and he's retired to spend more time with them. Elektra keeps coming to have him pull off One Last Job but other than that, his life seems great. Then it turns out his family is dead and he's just being brainwashed to think they're alive to keep him pacified when they don't need him shooting things. All the happy scenes of him and his family, he's just hanging out with mannequins.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIf they do end up the Secret Warriors, they could do the Secret War storyline where Fury (through Contessa) is covertly infiltrating/investigating Doom and Latveria.
There's a lot of fun characters they haven't adapted yet that would be interesting for antagonists to a "covert team" storyline, though. We could get an actual adaptation of the Maggia with Count Nefaria and a modern Madame Masque. Or a spy thing with Moses Magnum adapted with more of the Bond Villain stuff he has in the comics. Or they could do something with an already established area, like a civil war in Sokovia or something that they interfere in - one of those criticisms of America meddling in other countries, superhero comics love that one.
We don't really know anything about Yelena's current relationship with Contessa. While there was a bit of Red Herring there, Contessa turned out to not be involved with the events of Hawkeye at all - the person who sent Yelena to kill Hawkeye there turned out to be someone else.

I'm curious how bad things will go for Walker.
Cause in the comics his original stories does involve him getting brainwashed and being forced into a new identity under the absolute control of his handlers.
Can't imagine what Contessa has planned for him will be good.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."She'll 'tailor' the jobs to him in a similar way she tailored the hit on Hawkeye to Yelena (avenging Nat), she'll dress up the job into something that appeals to him and his mindset, and while Hawkeye was on the ball enough to find a way to get through to Yelena...with a helping of the ACTUAL client getting pinched and Yelena willing to listen, it remains to be seen if Walker has the same smarts
There's been a lot of discussion about how FATWS botches Walker's arc, namely at the very end where it goes from episode 5 really showing his Start of Darkness to episode 6 quickly giving him an "act of true heroism" moment and ending with him "redeemed" as the US Agent. The overall feeling particularly was it felt like an entire chunk of that arc was straight-up missing.
If Marvel was smart IMO they'd lean into that, paint him as someone who thinks he's redeemed himself but is still the same trigger-happy jackass from before, he's just being kept relatively stable by Elaine the shady super-spy blowing smoke up his ass and giving him a "purpose" to fight for. Basically keeping with the "thinks he's Captain America but is really Homelander" memes but with a bit more of an actual conscience. While still being a total asshole because he is.
So basically a dude who's trying and (badly) failing to be better because he doesn't realize the problem in the first place.
One Strip! One Strip!

I still remember when Deadpool 2 seemed like it was going to have its own version of X-force, but almost all the members died in the first minutes of being created.
