Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The name scheme is that they're variations of the names of ancient deities, the whole idea being that they inspired the old myths in an Ancient Astronauts sort of way and the differences are just corruptions of their names.
No, don't think about how that works when the comics have a Crossover Cosmology and every ancient deity actually exists, Sufficiently Advanced Alien or otherwise. Maybe back when Jack Kirby was involved there was a better idea of which gods were "real" and which weren't but both ideas have since blown to their logical conclusions and it's best not to question how both Thena and Athena coexist with each other.
The shots where Stephen is laying on the ground with his cuffs broken and the Ultron drones running towards something makes me think the Illuminati(?) scene is going to end with an attack.

I put on the Eternals' character page the question of how the ones who inspired the Greek figures are going to coexist with Russel Crowe's Zeus.

Sam Raimi says "anything is possible" in regards to him working on another Spidey-Flick

Someone asked Raimi if he'll make another movie and he shrugged.
Must be a slow news day.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Unironically all I want in my life. Or a Darkman tv show.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Yeah, I've been hearing "The bubble's about to burst!" takes since before Age of Ultron came out.

It's true all genres ebb and flow, so we'll see. It's more likely that the decline will be gradual. Maybe more superhero properties moving to streaming over theaters, and another genre becoming more popular over a series of years. Maybe video game adaptations? I dunno...

Cracked (the website) had a editorial
famously antecipating the superhero film genre was about to crash with...Guardians of the Galaxy. It's been a literal decade and the bubble still doesn't look like it's about to burst, though it has staggered with COVID-19.

What even is the name scheme of the Eternals?
I get the impression of vaguely bronze age deities from Greece and Mesopotamia?
How did the ancient babylonians know about Tiamat, for one thing, if she'd never been born, and the Eternals only learned of her existence through Arishem?
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for you
