Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! I'm editing this OP and pinning it to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

Instincts tell me "Perlmutter was a dick" is part of the answer, but I don't know the details.
Wake me up at your own risk.Or Loeb.
But why would they want to? Any new project with Daredevil will be done by Disney, so the tone will be different from the Netflix shows.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! But why would Marvel Studios do it if they don't need to in order to use the characters?
Edited by Cortez on Jan 19th 2022 at 2:30:37 PM
...Popular demand. Like I just said.
I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but they have a pretty good reason to try. A lot of people really wanna see it happen, which if they play their cards right could make them a lot of money. Not sure what other reason you want me to give here.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! They have the rights to the characters they don't need to work with Netflix and they might prefer not to.
You brought up the Sony deal, but that came about because Marvel Studios needed to do it to use Spider-Man.

What I and a whole shitload of other people, including many of the cast members want. Enough people that Marvel Studios has legitimate reason to at least consider the possibility.
Will it happen? Far from guaranteed, but so was them tieing the Raimi and Webb Spider-Man films into the MCU, yet they did it anyway because they knew the fans wanted to see something like that happen. Marvel Studios is pretty obviously willing to spend money to make money, and willing to play ball with other property holders.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I didn't mean to imply that the Netflix shows hampered the mainline movies. I'm just pointing out that most of the people involved with Marvel Entertainment (aka the ones who were responsible for all that Executive Meddling that stifled Feige) were also the ones heavily involved with the likes of the Defenders and their characters' solo shows.
Yes, Feige clearly has some form of admiration for Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayals of their respective characters, but that doesn't mean he has to respect the Creative Committee that put the shows in production. Really, the only other reasons that those guys managed to come into the mainline MCU is because 1. those characters have potential to work in the MCU at large with a bit of tweaking, and 2. Feige knows that every piece of media, no matter how controversial or different it is, has its fans, and that bringing those characters back would elicit joy from them.

Trust no one.And now he can use the characters and broad strokes the rest.
Edited by Cortez on Jan 19th 2022 at 2:45:46 PM
He could. He could also try to bring their respective stories back with them. It's not likely but it's not like it's physically impossible or anything.
I don't see why the latter is such an impossible course of action when a lot of people would like to see it happen, or why Feige wouldn't even consider it out of petty spite.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying that it's highly, highly, highly unlikely.
Put it this way, would you want to take the place of someone who was decorating their house in a different way from yours, but who also keeps shitting on every new piece of furniture you keep buying for your own home? I mean you could, but I certainly wouldn't want to.
And I don't think Feige wants to either. He just wants to refurbish the house he now owns to his own taste while keeping the elements that still fit the new aesthetic.
Trust no one. That analogy doesn't work.
If I were living alone in the home then yeah, I'd arrange the furniture to my preferences because it's just for me. But if I were renting out a home for a whole lot of other people to live in, who really, really liked the old layout and wanted to see it again, it would make sense to try and make it the way they liked rather than just declaring "my house, my rules, neener neener~"
I find the idea that Feige would spite Perlmutter (or whomever) by punishing fans of the shows to be a pretty harsh indictment of his maturity. Bureaucratic infeasibility is a much more likely reason why this wouldn't happen than "fuck those shows, just keep Cox and D'onofrio I guess".

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'd be okay just knowing what suit Bullseye would have worn after season 3.
I assume it would have been the modified Daredevil suit with the bullseye insignia.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I don't know if it's entirely based on a maturity thing on Feige's standpoint. I mean, with the possibile exception of Deadpool, Disney seems to have zero interest in doing anything R-rated for Marvel, especially if it's reviving a show made by a rival company under their umbrella.
Trust no one.Actually hold up, that's a good point in my favor, I forgot about Deadpool. Marvel's willing to not only continue the Deadpool movies made by Fox, but let him remain R-rated.
Disney doesn't own Netflix the way they own Fox, so they'd still have to actually work out a deal to pick up the shows from Netflix, but still, that at least means the tone issue or Feige not wanting to play with somebody else's toys aren't insurmountable obstacles.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! They don't need to work out a deal to use the characters. And Matthew Wayne said possible exception, we still don't know what and MCU Deadpool will be like.

Gaspard Ulliel, the actor who was cast to play Anton Mogart/Midnight Man in Moon Knight, has died in a skiing accident.
Damn thats sad, RIP homes.
I just now realized when I mentioned my preference to Janet as Wasp due to the quirky scientist couple dynamic with Hank, I noticed that actually also applies here as well.
We obviously don't see it much but from the looks of it Janet is bubbly and sweet while Hank is unapproachable and kind of a douche.
Makes one wonder what they were like when they were active in the field.
Edited by slimcoder on Jan 20th 2022 at 1:13:17 AM
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."MCU Hank was always implied to be a bit of a dick but it got a lot worse after Jan "died" so he might not have been quite as much a jerk back in the day.
Saying that, Jan does seem remarkably well adjusted herself given she's been stranded in the Quantum Realm but then maybe that's a time dilation thing.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I wonder why they cut the first one.
I'd speculate it's because it would be difficult to find a place to place it that didn't kill the momentum of the final episode.
Trust no one. That's understandable. Why reveal the wham moment at an early episode when dropping it at the latter end makes it even more impactful and holy shirt-y?
Because holy shirt, freaking Netflix Kingpin is still MCU Kingpin!
(Wonder if they'll establish if he was Spider-Man's starter villain in Freshman Year or they'll want to save him for a future MCU Spider-Man movie.)

Wilson Fisk 2 for 2 on being outclassed by spunky Gen Z kids
Legally speaking it's a long-shot, yeah, but it's not impossible. They could potentially work out some sort of deal with Netflix; if they can't buy the rights outright, they could work out some kind of sharing system like with Sony and Spider-Man, but focused on the stories rather than the characters. There's definitely demand for the shows to continue, especially Daredevil, so I wouldn't count it out yet.
What do you mean by that? That's the first I've heard of the Netflix shows impedeing Feige.
