Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So with the appearance of various deconstruction Superhero shows like The Boys, Invincible, and next month's Jupiter's Legacy on Netflix.
I'm curious if they'll ever try anything with Squadron Supreme, the OG superhero deconstruction preceding even Watchmen.
It be a Hell of a TV show and plus with What-If they are already dabbling in the multiverse shenanigan's.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."With the concept of a multiverse apparently being bought in to at least some degree I'd not be surprised at all to see the Squadron appear in some shape or form. Though what shape that will be remains to be seen.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Like for Nighthawk I'm curious if they'll go with his classic costume or his Supreme Power costume.
And I'm honestly leaning towards the Supreme Power look cause it looks so incredibly badass even if the actual character is an insane insufferable over the top racist black man.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I think a movie is too short to tell the Squadron Supreme maxi series story
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWandavision. I am biased because it ticks a lot of boxes I like (female lead, emotions and character-driven story, sitcom pastiche) and I don’t actually prefer political thriller action stuff, but TFATWS’s muddled politics kind of soured it for me as well. WV (in the absence of any actual politics) managed to remain thematically coherent even if it ended with a lame airborne laser battle.

I still prefer FATWS, honestly. It feels more rewatchable and enjoyable than Wandavision. Though, I do still enjoy Wanda Vision
It wouldn't surprise me if Heroes Reborn (2021) is partially Marvel wanting to remind people of at least the Squadron Sinister rendition of the Squadron for when they eventually introduce it into the MCU. And I'd personally love it - the DCEU has largely squandered its attempts at adapting Justice League (even account for the Snyder Cut) so I'm fully on board with Marvel doing it themselves, and I'd have a lot more faith in them nailing on both the core ideas inherited from the Justice League as well as the individual ones from the Squadron runs.
I think FAWS has much higher highs, helped out by its deeper subject matter and the way it handles at least the racial politics, but WV is significantly more consistent and less messy. It's really obvious that FAWS got hit harder from COVID and that even with the rescheduling it still suffered a lot more from it.

It’s interesting how Justice League parodies are so prevalent that Marvel has their own version of the League.
You never see that with the Avengers.
I like the drama, comedy, and character for Wandavision but FATWS also has good action, story, and characters as well.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."DC has their own Avengers
They don’t use them as much as Marvel does their Not Justice League but they’re there
The Not Thor Wandajin got massive radiation poisoning and turned into a walking tumor. It was bad times.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI can actually think both TF&WS and Wandvision have flaws and strengths. I prefer the later due to being more consistent.
I have never got the appeal of the Squadron Surpreme, but that is mostly because I just haven't read the comics. My only exposure to them is the Avengers Assemble cartoon.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
Unless you were Dexter's Laboratory, which made their superhero parody Avenger pastiches.

Well the Hulk pastiche was a big blue baby in a diaper

Forever liveblogging the AvengersWandavision takes the discussion by a mile for me. The surrealist sitcom/drama/psychological horror/superhero cocktail was a lot more innovative and striking to me.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier, before episode 6, was a solid spy thriller engaging with some intriguing social questions but episode 6 single-handedly annihilated the entire show that preceded it. It's the lowest point of the MCU as it stands alongside Iron Man 3, Age of Ultron and the Dark World for me. Wandavision's finale was also not as good as its preceding episodes, but it's not even in the same galaxy of disaster and had some great moments (the goodbye of Wanda and Vision is still beautiful).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It helps that the Squadron Supreme have had a lot of material building them up to the point where they stand on their own outside of the parody element. Play them Sinister and it's a solid Evil Justice League, play the Supreme and it's a Justice League flawed in ways that modern DC would most likely flub if they tried.
Oh and it doesn't help that DC's done several hashes of Avengers parodies that have never really stuck and have come off as more mean-spirited than anything. Shit even their own Evil Justice League (the Crime Syndicate) has had more to work with than any Avengers attempts.

I wonder if it’s because the Avengers are already quite flawed so trying to expy them either hits too close to the mark or goes too mean
Maybe making them perfect paragons in the way that theyre not is the way to go but then you have to work harder to contrive a conflict
Whereas marvel can just make the not justice league dicks or misled or brainwashed and call it a plot

Focusing heavily on golden-hour shooting isn't easy because you can get 2, maybe 3 shots before you have to pack everything up for tomorrow. I remember scrambling to finish a student film during golden-hour on a pick-up shoot and we barely got everything, we shot the last few shots at night, and student films obviously have a lot few moving parts than an actual film set.
