Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherCool. Sam is getting his own movie. I wonder if Bucky will come back for more bro moments.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
I assume he probably will.
Though I haven't seen the last episode yet, so for all I know maybe he dies in it. I hope not.
EDIT: He doesn't! Good.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonYeah, I strongly desagree. They shouldn't be the ones to decide, is Boseman family the one opinions that really matter in the end. They're the ones who should know if recasting T'Challa or not is insulting to Boseman memory and the legacy he was trying to bouild with the character.
And even if Boseman wishes was for T'Challa to be recast, but his family find it to painfull to approve, I believe it should be respected.
But personally, I think the idea of killing any character because of the death of it's actor is wrong. After all, some years later with the inebitable reboot of the MCU (or the introduction of the multiverse), we'll see a new Black Panther, but it won't be the same as it won't be a continuation of the character we ended loving.
I liked The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for the most part. Some incredibly strong moments, but also some rather sloppy writing moments that I think would have been better served by a second, longer show with less cinematics than a movie. So my opinion towards this news is mixed, although trending positive.
As much as I'm excited for Cap 4, I really hope Marvel doesn't do an abrupt about face regarding Spellman just because the last episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier divided fans and critics. Look at how Lucasfilm did Rian Johnson dirty after The Last Jedi.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherInterestingly Deadline claims Captain America 4 would be separate from whatever new project Chris Evans was reported to have signed on for last year. I still think the latter is gonna either be Secret Invasion (where he'd be a Skrull claiming to be the real Steve Rogers) or a period piece/flashback whenever Wolverine is introduced.
If they really don't want to recast T'Challa, maybe they could do what Lucasfilm did with Carrie Fisher and use older footage of him to give him enough of a role to pass on the mantle? Honestly, as jumbled and confused as Rise of Skywalker was, that bit actually was pretty well-executed (some obvious shadowy behind shots aside).
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI doubt they have enough unused footage of him to facilitate that, and in my opinion the attempt with Carrie Fisher really didn’t work out. It was way too obvious that she wasn’t actually talking to the characters and that the editors were stringing together random bits and pieces. Very awkward when they had to find an excuse for Rey and Leia to pass a lightsaber back and forth 3 times.
I didn't say it was perfect, I'm just saying it was a lot less intrusive than I feared it would be. But yeah, there probably isn't enough footage to do that with him. I was really just spitballing here.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonNo, both Carrie’s daughter Billie
and her brother Todd
were in full support.
That logic works just as hard, if not harder, in the opposite direction: if they replace Boseman, it could reinforce the idea that black actors are replaceable. Especially since Marvel Studios has only recast a part twice before, and one of those times was also with a black character.
They're also likely hesitant because of how big a deal the Black Panther was and how iconic Boseman's portrayal became practically overnight. I wouldn't relish another actor who has to deal with being The Other Darrin there, so I can see why the idea of going the legacy route instead is appealing.

I would've preferred Shuri to have an arc that builds up to her having the moniker, rather than htme having to hastily give it her offscreen because they don't have any other choice. That in turn diminishes the arc she would've had otherwise.
