Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The big caveat with this Sony/Disney deal is that this looks to be a US-only affair because the US networks, one Disney's core businesses, were a major sticking point in the deal: it was built under a preexisting second-run pay TV agreement FX had with Sony before Disney bought 21CF.
The only differences between that deal and this is that all of Disney's networks (yes, including ABC and Disney Channel) and Disney+/Hulu will have access to Sony content, not just FX.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI actually did enjoy Ultimate Spider-Man, though I've only seen the first two seasons. I do legitimately hate Assemble, though, largely because it got the amazing Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon canceled and replaced it with an absolute nothing series. Seriously, that show is so bland and unremarkable it actually kind of hurts. How it lasted for so long is beyond my comprehension.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI think what signifies the show being irredeemably uncreative is when they made the Avengers evil for a bit, their idea of an evil Iron Man, Hulk, and Widow is an Iron Man wearing black, Hulk has a mohawk, and Widow has some extra eye shadow.
Like WTF they went through the effort of giving Cap the US Agent uniform but couldn’t even give Tom his Endo-Sym armor or make Hulk dress like a gangster. What a fucking waste.

Forever liveblogging the Avengers
x2 Who's Tom? Did they make a new Iron Man just for that cartoon?
EDIT: The only thing I can commend Assemble for is debuting both the Squadron Supreme and Thunderbolts into animation, though not particularly well in either instance iirc

What's especially bad about the comparison is that many have pointed out that EMH is probably the closest thing Marvel has had to a truly DCAU-quality cartoon. But then the Avengers movie came out and Jeff Loeb thought, "Hey, let's just copy that, only remove everything that made the movie actually enjoyable. And while we're at it, hire the most unfitting voice for Tony Stark you can possibly find."
Travis Willingham as Thor was pretty good, though. In fact, I tend to read Thor comics in his voice now, so thanks for that, I guess.

Too bad Ant-Man 3's using Kang instead, who honestly should've been used as either an Avengers or next overaching villain.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonActually, you can't even credit Assemble for debuting the Squadron Supreme in animation; they were in Super Hero Squad before that.
Nighthawk was even voiced by Adam West!
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonAnd like, it's been almost ten years for both too. Spectacular was in 2009, and EMH was 2011/2012 wasn't it (it debuted before the movie)?
And a lot of us are still bitter. That's how badly balls were dropped.
One Strip! One Strip!Okay, the shading is weird, but I do like Assemble's baseline character designs more than EMH. Again, ESPECIALLY Tony Stark, what the hell was wrong with his face in EMH? It's not just me, right? He looks fuckin' weird!
◊ What's with his eyes and his eyebrows and his sideburns and his cheekbones and his cheeks and his mouth and his beard? It's like they tried to make a Tony Stark using all of the wrong facial features.
Man looks more like the Mandarin after 3 all-nighters.

Like with Avengers Assemble, it lasted a decent while but I rarely saw it on the schedule, like it only aired once per week.
