Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

What are the main universal threats in Marvel apart from Thanos/the Infinity Gauntlet and Galactus (honest question, I'm not a comic buff)? I think there was the Annihilation wave too, but are there any tied to the Celestials? That last one may be the most likely if the Eternals are going to play an important role.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.
Come to think of it, there is some evidence this one may play a larger role in the future of the MUC, since it has been hinted at in Captain Marvel, Far from home and the stinger from Wandavision. They would need to add the Shi'ar (would be funny to have them appear before the X-Men).

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.I knew there was more to that Sony/Netflix deal.
After the Netflix first-run windows for solo MCU Spider-Man movies expire, the movies will be heading to Disney Plus/Hulu
and all other Disney networks. This includes all Sony movies from 2022-2026 (which, I assume, is how long the Netflix deal will also run).
Woof.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherI had seen people remarking on this similarity on Instagram a couple of months ago. Since it was still close to the election, it quickly devolved into an ugly discussion.

Whelp. I had a feeling the MCU Spider-Man movies would show up on Disney+ eventually. (And I guess Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel?)
What I *didn't* expect is that this evidently applies for the other Sony movies like Jumanji and Hotel Transylvania. (The latter's actually funny, because that had a 2D animated show on Disney Channel, so it sounds hilarious in retrospect.)

What does the Sony movies going to Disney plus mean for the future of Spider-Man? I feel like I should know, but I am just not connecting the pieces.

Money talks, I guess. (And also global crises maybe?) All we need now is for Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio to appear as Daredevil and Kingpin at some point (maybe not in NWH but later) and some way to figure out where Tom Hardy's Venom fits into all this and we'll have the most extensive cinematic take on Spider-Man bar none.
Incidentally, one peek at Twitter and apparently folks are already starting to bet that this has made the third season of Spectacular Spider-Man more feasible than ever, but I still doubt it.

This could mean a lot of things going forward.
... I just hope that doesn't mean Disney being forced to make Venom and Morbius canon to the MCU in order to stay on Sony's good side.
Actually, wait, does this mean stuff like Ghostbusters and Men in Black on Disney+? That's weird to think about.

I could see Marvel Studios them spinning Morbius into a Legion of Monsters adaptation, depending on how it goes and how reasonable Sony is willing to be with canon.
The big problem beforehand with that being incorporated was Sony going "oh yeah! All of this is canon to the MCU!" without actually considering whether it all actually fit - leading to that Sad Kevin Feige pic that was memetic a few years back.
I thought that Old!Cap in the comics looked like a Comic-Book Fantasy Casting of Clint Eastwood, but I agree that the Old!Cap of the movies looks more like Biden.
I wonder if the Sony/Marvel deal makes it more likely that Emilia Clarke is Jessica Drew. I'd rather see that than her as Veranke.
Edit - Although I suppose she could be playing both given the plot of the comics Secret Invasion. Kind of would be in her wheelhouse to be both a quirky, kind of bumbling character and a world conquering queen.

Well, Ultimate Spider-Man ran for five years and 104 episodes, so it's actually one of the longest running Marvel cartoons (only surpassed by Avengers Assemble's 126 episode run). So, that depends on your definition of "well-treated".
I actually like Ultimate Spider-Man, but I am surprised it ran for as long as it did.

Still, you'd think Galactus would know better.
Disgusted, but not surprised
