Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think the Kree did pull that off in the comics at one point didn't they?
One Strip! One Strip!I have a hunch that the MCU now will go full-bore into the abyss of actively magical/fantasy business rather than sci-fi or "cosmic" (which kind of exists in a limbo between sci-fi and fantasy). Wandavision firmly set its titular character in context to sorcery and tomes and whatnot and they're hyping up Multiverse of Madness a lot. If I had to guess Shang-Chi would put another stepping stone in that magical conundrum.
Maybe this phase will be (at least in part) about assembling a team of "magic Avengers". Midnight Sons? They have Strange already plus Blade and Moon Knight on the way and Shang-Chi (while not a traditional member of the team) does fit in the broad "mystical heroes" shtick.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I think it's too early to say what the Myth Arc will be or if there even will be one at all. However, I do think people have picked up on the possibilities of Young Avengers (different members of the team appearing in different installments) to Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers (mostly with certain development from Falcon and Winter Soldier).
Hm
After all this time in the Thanos/infinity vague arc it feels weird not knowing in what general direction we’re going
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYoung Avengers I feel is definitely in the cards by the way they are suspiciously introducing seemingly a bunch of key members at the same time (The Twins, America Chavez, Stature, Kate Bishop) and the inclusion of Kang in Ant-Man 3. But it's a open question how long it'll take for them to be the Young Avengers. So far they're separate individuals in separate properties and I don't know how quickly they'll progress to actually being a team.
Thunderbolts is one they have the roster to do by way of several surviving villains, but it's unlikely they'd anchor the entire thing on them. "A team of Villain Protagonist types" is a lot more out there as an idea than Young Avengers or Midnight Sons.
Midnight Sons is more an inkling than anything, anyhow.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."If it wasn't in the cards at first, the sheer support they've gotten over the years for it has made it practically a certainty now.
Like, I could see them initially adapting Cassandra Lang just because she as Scott's daughter is a principal supporting character of his. But once people saw her on screen, people wanted it and wanted it, and by the time
Now they're introducing Speed and Wiccan, and while they could have simply been in the story just to be part of Wanda's tragedy, they made sure to have their voices come to Wanda in the end to ensure they're still part of the MCU. America Chavez is coming up, we just got Eli Bradley really just to be there since he doesn't really do anything onscreen but repeatedly establish he's Isaiah's grandson, etc. They're making a lot of deliberate choices right now that make it clear they're up to something.
That said, I don't know if it's going to be a myth arc in the same sense as the Thanos arc. Granted, the next phase just started, but we don't have like a central direction yet. Marvel's focusing more in individual stories rn.
It’s interesting to see a seemingly high dedication to the Young Avengers in both the MCU and the comics, considering that after Gillen’s run the team kinda vanished. Most of the roster was basically Put on a Bus for half the decade, and the Champions were more prominent, but now Empyre and America’s new run are bringing the YA back into the spotlight.
Marvel doesn't really know how to do a long running youth team like the Titans.
They run with one for a while and then dump it once popularity dips. On the other hand this means that Marvel doesn't have an existing team to use as murder fodder. On the other other hand, they keep doing bad things to New Warriors.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOn further thought, most of the YA have been doing pretty well for the most part since the teams dissolution.
Kate Bishop has been doing great due to effectively becoming Clint's partner earning her constant appearances in teams as well as her own ongoing stemming back to being a main character in the acclaimed Fraction Hawkeye series.
Teddy, Billy, and America make regular appearances in teams in such. The former 2 were apart of the New Avengers and are now currently Guardians of the Galaxy both by Ewing, while America was a main fixture of the Ultimates Saga also by Ewing. Billy was also in Strikeforce 2 years ago.
Cassie makes sparser appearances but generally is always there whenever her father gets a comic.
Really the only YA members who have been left by the wayside are Eli, Tommy, & Nate/Jonas.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Hail Mary Theory for Shang-Chi: Awkwafina's character "Katie" is actually Leiko Wu. She's a spy, sent by Interpol or SWORD or whatever. Her job was to investigate Shang-Chi and see if he could be used as an in to his father, but she found out he's not evil and they really became friends / lovers... without her ever revealing her cover.
Then Wenwu exposes her to drive a wedge between them, we get the Liar Revealed thing, etc and so on.
Maybe we'll have the next couple of movies with stingers that only announce the next movie, just as we had to wait until Avengers to discover Thanos (and even then there was no onscreen hint he was going to be involved in the Infinity stones arc). I'm actually kinda OK with this.
I do wonder what the stinger for the Black Widow movie will be and if one of the reasons it postponed everything else was that it referenced the future movies (or because these movies involved a character from BW).
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.

In the original Secret Invasion that was the case, they were a extremist group that were following a prophecy. Not all skrulls were with them and actively fought them, like Super Skrull and Xavin.
