Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, 2008 film is the fully canon one (Ross is there, Stark Industries and Tony himself also appear,, Abomination/Blonsky will return in She-Hulk). But there's some Broad Strokes with the 2003 fil; such as Bruce running away to South America in 2003 after turning into the Hulk and the dates match, too. All else is up in the air, however
Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, nglI'd say he's matched, at least, by Norman Osborn and Winston Frost (Emma Frost's father). If nothing else, I'd call Winston the worst father in the Marvel Universe who isn't a supervillain.
RE Shang Chi - I wonder if Awkwafina's character Katie is actually a spy, including possibly the masked "Death Dealer" character, based on the "rule" that a story doesn't introduce a mysterious masked character unless someone important is under the mask.
One speculation I saw Is that she might be a gender flipped version of a rival character called Shen Kuei / "Cat".

Bucky. It's a spoof of a notably humorous line from Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonGiven the kind of movie Shang Chi is shaping up to be, I'd give good odds on Awkwafina being a spy, but fifty fifty on whether she's a good spy or a bad spy.
She could be, say, a "I work for Interpol / SHIELD / whatever. We've been trying to take down your father for years, so I've been tailing" twist instead, where they're on the same side but his trust in her is still shaken.
But I could also still totally imagine her being a spy for the Mandarin as well. The kind of stuff that went on in Shang Chi's original stories is conducive to both possibilities.

By the way, is SHIELD still supposed to exist in the MCU (the "official" one)? Or has it been replaced by SWORD?

Endgame gave me the impression that the Avengers' peackeeping organization fused with a bunch of like organization and has formally taken up the role that SHIELD had on a global scale - from Wandavision, it appears SWORD is that same organization, but they could still have Fury or someone say "nah, SWORD is actually separate from us" at some point.
Far From Home and The Stinger of WandaVision both imply that Fury is behind SWORD. I'd imagine Heyward's group is probably like an "Earth branch" of the organization, while Fury runs everything else out in space.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI don't remember if the base where we saw Fury at the end of Far From Home was adorned with SWORD logos (come to think of that, I don't think we saw any indication of what the organisation "Fury" and "Hill" belong to during this movie was). In any case I don't quite see Fury being OK with SWORD's actions in Wandavision.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.![]()
Adding to my previous post, the ending of Age of Ultron seemed to indicate that Fury and Hill were now directly working for the Avengers organization, though we didn't actually see them again until Infinity War, where there wasn't much indication of what exactly they were up to at that point.
In fact, now that I think of it, we don't 100% know the current whereabouts of the real Hill. We didn't see her in space at the end of FFH.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonWasn't she working for Stark Enterprises after Winter Soldier (or maybe I'm mixing up with AoS)? Maybe she is allowed the occasional "Fury-time" but was not able to free herself on this occasion. Or Talos' wife simply wanted to stay with him while he was working as Fury and asked Hill to replace her for this occasion.
