Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

There is a difference between comic book fans and the general audience. I'd bet not a lot of people apart from Marvel fans had heard about the Guardians of the Galaxy before their movies, and I think we could say they are liked now.
In fact I wonder how well the Inhumans series is known to the MCU general audience, and, for instance, what is the percentage of it who would think of that series when hearing about Inhumans compared to percentage who will think of SkyeDaisy.

Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Trailer looks pretty good, though we see very little to get any grasp of Shang's actual personality beyond "mad kung fu skills" and "daddy issues."
Though I did laugh at one smart ass comment on YT retitling as "Shang Chi and the Legend of We're Sorry About Iron Fist."
I feel embarrassed. I didn't register that. That's cool.
Something I find cool about the concept, is that there is a sort of truth in television/ sort of stereotype about Asian Americans (or perhaps diaspora(?) Asians generally) being considered disappointments to their parents because they pursue their own choice of (generally less stable) career path, instead of the more prestigious/lucrative one favored by their parents.
And this is also true of Shang Chi, except the parental-favored career path he abandoned is that of supervillain who leads a vast international conspiracy. And like it is totally believable that he would tell Katie about being estranged from his father but leave out that little detail.

I guess when the X-Men show up Mystique could fill that role. Mystique is a lot of things, but a good mom is not one of them.

TFW realize that the neglectful Howard Stark and distant Hank Pym turned out to be two of the better MCU dads all things considered.
If Hulk had his own MCU movie we'd have had another horrible dad in Brian Banner — the worst dad in Marvel comics bar none. And that is saying a lot.

Disgusted, but not surprised![]()
We technically already dealt with Bruce's bad father once (I still headcanon parts of that movie as being canon to the MCU)
About that, do we know exactly which background MCU Hulk has? My brother insists that the opening credits of his movie imply some connection with the 2003 film.
From what I understand, the 2003 film is Broad Strokes, although a lot of the opening imagery from the 2008 film was specifically made to evoke the old 70s TV show.

The eternals could get a fantastic film which will have people notice them.
The inhumans have one of the worst shows of the modern era so will rewire much much more help on that front.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
