Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I just like the idea that all the hero's aren't necessarily one big family.
Like when you have a diverse group of people united by simple standards of morality, not everyone is gonna be the same. Sure are plenty are gonna be nice, but there's also ones who are just kind of mean or unapproachable.
Like their not sadistic or cruel, just kind of a jerk but this isn't a problem because they are still able to work fine with others because they are still professionals.
Rhodey prolly dislikes Thor enough to make some snips at him but he's not a child like Rocket and Quill so he won't let it fuck things up.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Though I do think that Quill and Rocket being jerks is justifiable. Quill's childhood consisted of losing his mother to cancer followed immediately by being abducted by space pirates who kept making "jokes" about eating him. An upbringing like that isn't particularly great at creating a mature adult.
And Rocket probably didn't even have a childhood. Unless you consider being torn apart and rebuilt repeatedly in a lab to be a childhood.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI do think that Rhodey's position in-universe is somewhat artificially supported. IIRC no one ever tells him to stop making mean quips at Thor when they're in an environment to do so. It's just treated as a non-issue by the rest of the team (and by extension the movie).
I can accept Rhodey maybe being a bit sore about Thor's physical state in contrast to his (and on a wider scale the team members not being friendly towards each other all of the time), but it comes off as Rhodey mocking Thor because the latter is severely depressed and has experienced physical consequences like gaining a large amount of weight because of it.
So, let's hang an anchor from the sun... also my TumblrI think Endgame has some great moments of empathy and compassion between the characters
And I think the ratio of that to barbs needed to be adjusted to make the overall less mean spirited
Take out a couple jokes, especially the one about the salad etc

Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe salad joke was actually from Freya and came after a rather heartwarming moment.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.@ Bocaj and M 84 - I completely agree.
As far as Quill goes, I thought that his treatment in Infinity War and Endgame makes a lot of sense, because it gets at how he reads differently in his own movies (where by comparison to everyone else he's The Hero), and how he reads when interacting with The Avengers (where he's basically a much less competent but more aggravating version of Tony).
I don't think it necessarily is a trope, but you can see the same kind of thing with the Flash (or Kid Flash) in DCAU properties or Spider-Man in Marvel comics - Where they are the hero in their own stories, but kind of an annoying Butt-Monkey when on a team.
There’s something hilarious how Quill in the comics was sort of more of a Master Chief kinda guy while on the movies he’s a “puckish rogue” with extra screaming.
Hilariously in Avenger’s Earth’s Mightiest Heroes he literally is voiced by Master Chief, Steve Downes.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."So, he's both of those in the comics?
I assure you, I'm perfectly trustable personIt’s a prosthetic
Kinda like Bucky’s arm
And like Rhodey’s spine braces
And like Tony’s arc reactor heart, before he removed the shrapnel

Forever liveblogging the AvengersNah, funky-wunky comics Status Quo Is God was definitely in play. Thor lost his eye and Mjolnir, went back to using Mjolnir in IW/Endgame. Loki and Gamora died, we'll just pull time-displaced versions of them to keep using the characters.
Mjolnir was back only for Endgame, the whole enchanted stuff is still gone and right now Stormbreaker is just a fancy weapon whose use has expired but isn't really needed for Thor to fight, except to make up for his unpolished skills. And Loki's time displaced self is on his own adventure, rather than meeting our heroes. Furthermore, Gamora's first instinct after being brought back to replace the one that got killed is to run away once the commotion dies down.
Also Tony and Natasha are dead as a doornail, the Avengers are still split up, Steve is gone, the original Vision is gone and in his place is a barely similar entity, Pietro continues being dead, Hulk is pretty much retired from action, Thor left Earth.
IDK, it definitely doesn't seems like things put themselves back in place, the heroes are pretty much forever split and the original Avengers are all gone now in many ways each.

Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, nglOK, I had forgotten about Thor losing his eye (though I could argue that losing one eye is less damaging than the use of both legs), and it was not during an Avengers mission. As for Tony's shrapnel and Bucky's arm, they technically happened before the Avengers existed (in Tony's case you could say the shrapnel was part of their creation). Rhodey remains the only Avengers who suffered a lasting injury during an Avengers mission (along with Pietro, but he was forgotten by everyone until Wandavision anyway).
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Tony’s arm is fucked up after Wanda hit him with a car
It’s not the same level but it’s a thing apparently
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
I don't remember this. When did it happen?

I guess they felt there was a burning need for fat jokes in Endgame for some reason.
Clint didn't get the same treatment presumably because it's slightly harder to make quips about brutal vigilante murder sprees.
