Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I like the armband take on the rings.
I'm not finding anything that backs this up right now (and obviously it's not an East Asian mythology), but somehow I had the sense that Draupnir
, which is one of the big mythology magic rings was actually an armband.
I am wondering about the magic or at least space magic component of the movie. I'm spoilering this just in case (although I believe previously discussed), but one of the leaked toys is a sapient dragon. And another toy is this creature referred to as Morris, which is a cute, eyeless blob that looks kind of like a flumph, but evidently is a creature from Chinese mythology. Unfortunately, I cannot find the name of it right now.
I’m a little skeptical on the dragon, because it came from a LEGO set, and for a while now LEGO has been inventing largely original things for the pre-release tie in sets to have to avoid spoilers.
Remember the tentacle monster from the official Dr. Strange set that everyone thought meant Shuma was going to be in the movie, but instead just turned out to be something random that wasn’t in the film?

If nothing else they could have gone wilder
with the arm rings on Mandarin.

If we follow this line of thoughts, there are a lot of works that should not be referenced any more...
I will say that despite Ellis thoroughly deserving to be called on his shit and face consequences for it... I still absolutely love Nextwave.
That should not be taken as praise of its creator as a person nor condoning of his actions.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."
It's sad that you even have to clarify that, but that's what happens when something you enjoy is made by someone who's done something really really shitty.
One Strip! One Strip!Indeed. It's a tough question sometimes when an artist you like turns out to be a complete ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️ but I think it is legitimately possible to separate artist from their work in some cases.
The line is more blurred when there are some questionable politics or other views that seem to be shared between characters and artist alike (such as full meltdown mode Frank Miller just as an example.)
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I too am on the side of distinguishing the author from their work, as long as the faults of the author don't blatantly propagate to the work of course.
Also, I have begun reading Nextwave and find it bloody hilarious.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.Someone found this poster
for What If. Could totally just be fanart, but if it isn't... someone in Marvel forgot they now have the rights to Exiles, I guess?

They may have just decided Guardians of the Multiverse looks better on a poster than Exiles.
Kind of like how the Netflix Defenders were Defenders and not the Marvel Knights or whatever.
We also don't know what the show is going to be like. If they get together all of one time or hell if they don't get together at all, its going to look pretty silly calling them Exiles which is a whole thing.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
x3: I doubt it's fanart since Anne found it at an FYE
store, and you can see some aspects of the store behind the poster like a racket of comics. The series is apparently slated for a mid-2021 release
, so having some early promotional material around makes it more likely.
It's possible? The Disney-Fox merger finalized on March 20, 2019, and What If...? was formally announced on April 11, 2019
. But hey, though unrelated to the MCU, Marvel's M.O.D.O.K is allowed to use and reference X-Men content
, and that series was formally announced in February 2019.

Yeah,an alien shapeshifting space dragon is the kind of goofy character that would turn up in a Guardians movie
