Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The Justice League at least once dipped in popularity below the Teen Titans
As the legend goes, this is what led to the Justice League Detroit era
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAlso Busiek’s Avengers was solid quality and supposedly had solid sales (not equivalent to Ultimates but Ultimates was getting promoted a lot more and sold to not the usual comics audience). It’s definitely a high point in avengers but if you’re looking at prominence it likely still is overshadowed by X Men in all of its industry destroying 90s juggernaut glory
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThere was the short-lived 90s cartoon with Hank Pym leading the team, but that's about all of the pre-Iron Man representation of the team I know.
Oof. United They Stand. I own it but it’s so bad I haven’t gotten through it yet
The West Coast Avengers esque roster was because the more famous Avengers were tied up in rights issues and the aesthetic was to copy Batman Beyond of all things
It’s a glorious train wreck conceptually
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThere was also a few DTV Avengers movies made before the MCU took off, the two Ultimate Avengers films and Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. And even then, the latter didn't really star the Avengers, just their kids.
I have fondness for that concept. It wasn’t really good but I’d have liked to see it get a few more stories of avenger kids in dystopic wasteland
They were apparently imported into the comics but were evil. Cant find a lot of info how that story went
Forever liveblogging the AvengersStill bothers me he didn't include a Mythology Gag towards it. It'd have been trivial for Steve to comment something like "I'm a nomad now." while explaining his situation to any given character.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."As an aside, I find it aesthetically pleasing that the central atrium of the TVA is based on the atrium of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis
, just with digital extensions in all directions and giant statues of the Timekeepers superimposed on the elevator column.
Wasn't that the shot where someone looking very much like Nat could be glimpsed?
Oh, that's too bad. I'd have loved to see more of Nat.

So, wait, pretty much all the merch leaks and casting announcements are calling Tony Leung's character Wenwu. Is the movie just not going to call him the Mandarin then?

I think the Mandarin title will be referenced and explainednote , but I could easily see the Mandarin being mostly referred to by his actual name in most of the dialogue. Especially by Shang-Chi given that he probably knows what his father's name is even if it's not public knowledge.
Actually side note, has it ever been confirmed that the Mandarin will be Shang-Chi's father in the MCU? It's such a common theory that I'm kind of assuming it's true, but now that I think about it I can't recall it being acknowledged by an official or at least reliable source.
The oddest thing isn't them not using the name Mandarin, but them not using any of the other names Mandarin has gone by over the years (like Zhang Tong) and instead creating a new one - provided Wenwu is meant to be his birth name, at any rate.
However, it makes sense - especially if it is an alias - if it's a reference to this
: which would make it still a clever way of giving him a name that's similar in subject matter to what taking the the name Mandarin implies, but distinct and lacking in the additional connotations.

Only because of the X-Men movies. Prior to those, the X-Men were tied with the Avengers and F4, with other teams coming in and out of prominence on the wind.
